Cincinnati Cyclones
OK, time for a shameless plug.

There is a team currently make a deep run in the playoffs right here in our city.

The Cyclones are playing in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Reading Royals this week. Last night they won game three in OT by a 3-2 final. Every game in this best of seven has gone into overtime so far, with the Cyclones losing the first two games. This is the deepest they have been in the ECHL playoffs since they won the Kelly Cup in 2010.

They have games Friday and Saturday night. Friday is $3 Leinekugel Summer Shandy all night.

Would be great if some of you would come down and support the team. It is tough to sell playoff tickets due to the limited amount of time between the announcement of the series schedule and the games. Group sales make up a large portion of regular season sales, but there is not enough time to get groups in for the playoffs. The crowds have been about half of what they were during the regular season. It would be nice if they could get a decent crowd behind them this weekend and hopefully propel them to a three games to two lead before they head back to Reading to finish up the series.

We're planning to head down tomorrow night, Summer Shandy isn't my cup of tea but hey whatever gets the casual fan to attend. I think the Cyclones are one of the best values for the sports dollars in the city.

Went last night for $1 beer night..I planned on going to a fight and seeing a hockey game...but it was just a hockey game, yet an exciting one.

$1 beer for playoffs though, man do they have trouble getting people to come out

Every Wednesday is $1 beer night throughout the season. Tuesdays are $2 24 oz beers. It is tough to get families to come down on weekday games because games end at 10:00-10:30 and all the games are during the school year. So instead they market toward the college aged crowd. They just carry that same strategy into the playoffs.

And as far as fighting, you won't see as much during the playoffs. Each game means too much for guys to get caught up in the extracurricular activity.

Attendance has actually improved every year since the Cyclones returned in 2006. Like I said before, attendance is just an issue during the playoffs due to the limited amount of time to market and sell. It is an issue with every team in the league.

The Cyclones left? where have I been? I remember the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks were here and played in the Gardens, but didnt know the Cyclones left.

But sad the Mighty Ducks left. Just brings back childhood memories. Loved those movies growing up and turned me into a life long Ducks fan. Reminds me of the good ole years with the Northern Kentucky Norsemen and my famous triple deke

They suspended operations in 04-05 and 05-06 due to construction that prevented safe access to the arena.

The arena is still ****. Those padded seats are less comfortable than seats at the Reds game

I remember when I went to UC the Stingers played at the Colliseum. I also remember the basketball players wearing their warm ups when they were on the bench because the floor was so cold with the ice being underneath it.

Game 5 of the ECHL Eastern Conference finals held true to form on Saturday night. That was bad news for the Cincinnati Cyclones, and just fine by the Reading Royals.

Cincinnati outshot the Royals for the fifth straight game in the series, but for the fourth time in five games, came up short where it matters: goals.

Ian O'Connor, Kirk MacDonald and T.J. Syner scored as Reading beat the Cyclones 3-1 at U.S. Bank Arena, wrapping up the best-of-seven conference finals four games to one.

"They were the better team tonight," Cyclones coach Jarrod Skalde said. "Through the first four, I thought we gave ourselves an opportunity, and they could have gone either way. But tonight, I thought they were the better team."

Dan Eves scored in the second period for the Cyclones, who fired 26 shots on goal to Reading's 20. For the five games, the Cyclones outshot Reading 186-141.

"We could talk about the breaks they got, or the bounces, pull back and talk about all that stuff, what if, but we lost to the better team," Skalde said. "They're well-coached, they've got a lot of depth, they've got size, and their goaltending is tremendous."

Reading goalkeeper Riley Gill saved 25 of 26 shots, including any number of tough chances, in his ninth straight start of the postseason.

Game 5 began uneventfully, in contrast to the fireworks of Game 4 on Friday, when the Royals scored twice in the first 62 seconds. Saturday's first period ended in a scoreless tie.

Still, a scoreless tie beats a 2-0 hole. And the Cyclones were 5-1 in these playoffs when tied at the first intermission.

But the 2-0 hole was coming.

At 7:08 into the second period, Reading's O'Connor led a 2-on-2 rush up the right side, and the lefty fired over sprawling defenders trying to block the shot, and by goalkeeper Michael Houser, for his fourth goal of the playoffs and a 1-0 lead for the Royals.

The Cyclones came up empty on their two power plays, both in the second period - and fell further behind in the process.

On the second, Reading's MacDonald faked clearing the puck through the middle and instead carried it through the neutral zone, getting behind the defense and beating Houser for a shorthanded goal, his third of the playoffs.

Eves cut the deficit in half when he gained control of the puck from a pileup in front of the net and pushed it across from the left side to make it 2-1 with 3:55 left. Eves notched goals in all three games in Cincinnati.

The third period started with 1:19 left on a power play for Reading, left over from a 2-minute minor for boarding to Mike Pelech. It was the shorthanded Cyclones who got the better chances out of it, with a couple decent cracks at Gill, but couldn't put one past him.

With 11:04 left, their task got tougher when Syner added an insurance goal for Reading, his fifth of the postseason.

With 1:35 left, the Cyclones pulled Houser for an extra skater. Cincinnati's best chance came during a scrum at the doorstep with 46.2 seconds left, but Reading's Gill covered up for a faceoff.

The Cyclones' eighth playoff appearance came to an end in the conference finals, the fifth time they've gotten that far. The last time, 2010, the Cyclones went all the way to the Kelly Cup championship.

"I'm proud of our guys, and proud of our effort," Skalde said. "It was a really good year."
