Tulane needs a pair of 7-5 seasons just to shut people up.

could have done the same with Buffalo and made more sense geographically- in BE footprint, endowment, AAU, ocs, decent market, good basketball team.

Not really you forget that there are more CUSA teams than NE teams and those schools have history with Tulane.

Well of the 25 worst teams in the 2014 conferences:
MAC 5
SBC 5 plus App St and Ga Southern
CUSA 5 plus ODU
MWC 4
AAC 2
SEC 1
B10 1
P12 1
Ind 1

ACC(who I just saw had #100 BC) and Big 12 only 2 to not have a team in the bottom 25.

Bourbon Street night life and possible bowl tie in implications as well.

And here I was thinking it was mandatory to have a team coming off 0-12 in the 100s. I guess this guy really does do his homework (if we are above about 85, he is off his rocker).

SMU is at 99 while USM, after an 0-12 season, is ahead of SMU?

June Jones' seat must be scorching hot.

Same should be true for nearly any head coach in the 100's who has been in his current job for at least two years. Hauck at UNLV is in that category.

USM had talent, that coaching job by Johnson was nothing short of the worst performance in the history of the NCAA. Seriously you could grab 8 or 9 people off this message board and not screw it up as bad as he did. As long as USM hired a competent coach (and I think they hired the guy they should have hired last year) they'll be pretty decent.

2015 CUSA and SBC lineups will be interesting. Both should be horrible with the FCS adds. At least the SBC is adding teams that have been good at FCS.

Homerism aside, I think 99 is way too low for SMU, even with the tough OOC schedule this year.

Western Michigan comes in at number 98 on the countdown. I'll be right back with a long distance dedication.

And 2015 AAC will have 99 SMU, 109 Tulane, and 116 Memphis. Will be interesting where these three will be in 2016 compared to UTSA, ODU, and Charlotte.

Agreed. I'm still scratching my head over the Tulane add. At least Memphis brings hoops. Kinda shocked at SMU in a way. You'd think with a big money coach they'd be performing a little better.

I am also shocked at SMU. I thought June Jones had them going in the right direction, and the dominant game Rice had against the Ponies last year was a big step forward for the Owls. It will be very tough on SMU to see them take a step backward in the AAC, and compete against TCU for fans in the Metroplex.

The Tulane add will puzzle me for years.

The next Tulane president will dictate whether or not the Tulane add goes down in history as a failure. The good news is that the board at Tulane has a number of pro-athletic people on it - so the hope here is that the new President doesn't try to kill off athletics at the university.

New athletic facilities are being built at the university - and I think that things are changing for the better.

The AAC should have probably waited 3-4 years FIRST to make sure that Tulane pans out as they expect. It's a gamble that could pay off in spades or haunt the conference for a decade.

It's not as much of a reach as the MVC adding Loyola-Chicago, but both L-C and Tulane have a lot of work to do to make those who chose them look good.

Ironically (since Wedge was the last to post in this thread), Cal is next at 95.
