Is it odd that Alabama picked USM, but USM didn't pick Bama? I guess I really don't understand the parameters or benefits of making the lists.

Also, the school I went to has a med school now but was listed under the category of private schools that only have master's programs. Since it's not a PhD then I suppose that's different. I dunno.

Columbia and Princeton, what the hell you guys?

Sorry, conferencemates (though only USC bothered to list us with the UCs not participating) and all other schools that play D1-A ball.

The University of Phoenix has a great sense of humor.

It really is too bad. I would love to see the connections made by both Berkeley and UCLA. Maybe the UC people didn't want to reveal the internal pecking order? They could have just agreed to mutually pick each other.

Meanwhile, the Cal State system had some schools participate but not all. Of the three in D1-A, only SDSU participated and named neither SJSU nor Fresno State as a peer. CSU Long Beach was the only sister campus that impressed SDSU.

Yeah, faculty in Riverside might be ticked if UCB, UCLA, and UCSD didn't list UCR as a peer (and they wouldn't unless they had to for diplomatic reasons).

But, just for fun, excluding other UC schools, who would we pick for Cal? I'd put them in two categories: The best of the very large public research universities, and the best research universities that don't have a medical school (and the avalanche of research money that goes along with having a medical school).

Public research universities: Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin, UNC-CH, UT-Austin, Ohio State.

Top research universities with no med school: Caltech, MIT, Princeton.

This just makes so little sense to me.

ISU

Colleges selected as peers by this college:

Ball State U
Bowling Green State U main campus
Clemson U
Miami U, Oxford
U of California, Riverside
U of California, Santa Cruz
U of North Carolina, Greensboro
U of Wisconsin, Milwaukee

Colleges that selected this college as a peer

Binghamton U
Bowling Green State U main campus
Central Michigan U
Dominican U
Eastern Michigan U
Georgia Southern U
Indiana U of Pa
James Madison U
Kennesaw State U
MacMurray C
Missouri State U
Oakland U
Rutgers U, Newark
Texas State U, San Marcos
U of Missouri, St. Louis
U of Northern Colorado
U of Northern Iowa
U of St. Thomas

Peer colleges that also chose this college as a peer

Bowling Green State U main campus

In what way is my school comparative to any of these other than UNI and Dominican?

Also, the data that they are using for schools is old.

RE: Chronicle of High Ed: Who Does Your College Think Its Peers Are?
USC picked all private schools which makes sense even though academically I would say they're also at the same level as the top publics.

As for Cal, I'd just go with the top 5 publics. I'd be more interested to see which schools UCs like Riverside, Irvine, Santa Cruz, etc. picked as peers. There's a pretty commonly accepted pecking order in the UCs, but yeah, might be a touchy subject for some of the UC administrators.
