Right. The AAC will get its pick of the litter first.

Wont matter much by that point. All the bowls left will more or less be the same.
NOT FAIR..... C-USA should not lose a bowl to the AAC.

It isn't really working out the way the AAC fans hoped it would. Reports out of CUSA spring meetings suggest six primaries and two secondaries for CUSA, which is close to what the conference has now and therefore doesn't recommend a lot of change. I've reported this before in CUSA and AAC forums, but most of CUSA's bowl partners have long term relationships with the conference and all except Hawaii are in the conference's footprint. This coupled with the AAC's apparent fluidity means a lot of CUSA's bowl partners are staying put in this bowl cycle. The two most likely to move on are New Orleans and Liberty. The former wants more from CUSA than they are likely to get while the latter is convinced it will have the AAC's no 1 team (CUSA's no 1 is likely to move to the conference-owned Heart of Dallas Bowl against B1G no 7).

Six primaries and 2 back-up represents an increase for CUSA. The CUSA schools and CUSA conference those bowls had relationships with are quite different after 2013, so I wouldnt count my chips just yet. I dont think anyone really knows how this will shake out.

That said, it doesnt matter. The bowls that are left are pretty much all the same. Personally, I think the AAC will end up with plenty of bowls--my concern is that they might all kinda suck. Even in a worst case senario where we only end up with 2 or 3 bowls (I think Aresco would probably have to punch every bowl director in the eye for that to happen), the conference will simply enter into a back up agreement with virtually every power conference bowl in its footprint. That allows those bowls access to AAC teams risk free. Sure, it will be much riskier for AAC schools in the "at large" pool, but I doubt many bowl eligible AAC teams will ever get left out in the cold if we have a ton of back-up arrangements.

But isn't there already a CUSA/Sunbelt bowl? Surely if the Sunbelt is getting more bowls, it would want a wider range of opponents.

Unless CUSA suddenly guarantees the New Orleans Bowl its no 2 or 3 team or puts some sort of arrangement in place that guarantees a CUSA team that the bowl has some input in choosing, then the New Orleans Bowl will be Sun Belt vs AAC in the future. Even if CUSA did that, the New Orleans Bowl might go AAC anyway.

Creating a new bowl in Little Rock makes sense given that CUSA is also likely to lose the Liberty Bowl. The AAC and CUSA will already play in as many as three bowl games, while the loss of the New Orleans Bowl would effectively end an annual series between the Sun Belt and CUSA.

The one bowl game that is guaranteed to lose out is the Independence Bowl. They still seem to think they can get useful mileage from double digit P5 tie-ins.

You got that right. The Independence Bowl has tie-ins with the SEC and ACC--but their last game was ULaLa vs Ohio. Those super low P5 ties are going to be useless most of the time in the new playoff era.

RE: New Bowl In Little Rock?
Who would be a potential sponsor in Little Rock? Fortune 500 in the state in order of probability: Murphy Oil, Dillards, Tyson, Wal-Mart.
Others
Stephens Inc., largest off Wall Street trading firm based in Little Rock major support of athletics in the state. Tried to put together deal for 65,000 seat dome in the Little Rock area but public financing fell apart, major sponsor of War Memorial renovation, involved in the Alltel now Verizon arena deal, donated the land for the new Class AA baseball stadium.

AT&T bought naming rights to the field at War Memorial.

Verizon, bought out Little Rock based Alltel and after cutting most of the high level corporate people from Alltel has expanded to have more employees in Little Rock.

Acxiom, based in Little Rock is the world's largest processor of consumer data. If you've had a background check, had employment verified or receive direct mail, the odds are that data came from them.

All the team hotel quality hotels are located in or around the RiverMarket District. If fans can't happy staying there with numerous clubs and restaurants in walking distance they can't be made happy. World HQ and visitors center of Heifer Project is a trolley ride away along with Clinton Library, I'd wager that a standard visit for all visiting teams would be Central High School National Monument.

Aha, I had not heard that.

Yes, if the CUSA is at risk of losing its bowl with the Sunbelt bowl, it would make sense for both sides to work on developing a replacement Sunbelt bowl if that should happen.

Just as the MAC would want to keep a bowl with the MWC, but if the MWC loses a tie-in with a more appealing bowl than the Potato Bowl and wants to swap the MAC into that one, and play the Sunbelt in the Potato Bowl, that would be fine.

You almost have a situation now in that if the MAC, CUSA, SBC and AAC all want 5 bowls they are going to have to play each other.

This is what I am projecting for the 4 conferences for the 2014-19 cycle..

AAC (6 bowls)
1) Liberty (vs. B12 #6)
2) Military (vs. ACC #7)-Navy invitational
3) Shreveport (vs. SEC #9)
4) Orlando (vs. CUSA)-UCF invitational
5) Beef O'Brady (vs. MAC)-USF invitational
6) New Orleans (vs. SBC)-Tulane invitational

MAC (4 Bowls)
1) Detroit (vs. B1G)
2) Mobile (vs. SBC)
3) Beef O' Brady (vs. AAC)
4) New Mexico (vs. MWC)
Backup: Poinsettia, Armed Forces

CUSA (4 Bowls)
1) Orlando (vs. AAC)
2) Hawaii Bowl (vs. MWC)
3) Armed Forces Bowl (vs. BYU/Army)
4) Little Rock (vs. CUSA)

Sun Belt (4 Bowls)
1) Mobile (vs. MAC)
2) New Orleans (vs. AAC)
3) Little Rock (vs. CUSA)
4) Boise (vs. MWC)-Idaho invitational

-For the AAC, starting a second Florida bowl makes a lot of sense with two programs located in the state and the destination/recruiting value. Going in on a new Florida Bowl it makes sense for the AAC to partner with CUSA with the AAC bowl in Tampa becoming a MAC match up.

-It would make sense for the MAC to trade out its tie-in with the bowl in Boise with a game in New Mexico so the SBC can take care of Idaho in the post season.

-CUSA will likely be looking at 4 bowl games for a 14 team conference. They over expanded with MTSU and FAU when ECU and Tulane left. They will probably hold onto the Armed Forces and Hawaii bowl because nobody else wants those games.

The B1G is firm about staying in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Since the B12 is losing the Cotton, Pinstripe and Holiday Bowls I think they'll take holding onto the Dallas Bowl seriously.

The Heart of Texas Bowl was purchased by a charity (Heart of Texas) of which Britton Banowsky (the CUSA commissioner) is the chairman. Essentially, the commissioner bought CUSA a bowl. The Heart of Texas is going to be a CUSA bowl.

By the way, Ill be pleasantly surprised if Aresco gets the Big-12 #6 in the Liberty and a #7 ACC in the Militaty Bowl. I think its likely closer to a 8/9 selection for both bowls given the bowl line-ups those two conferences already have. Thats going to be a problem for the AAC's #1 bowl. Given the way the playoff could easily claim 2-3 from a single conference, its very likley that no Big-12 #8/9 selection may be avaliable to the Liberty on a fairly regular basis.

Where is the B12 going if they aren't playing in the Dallas Bowl?

If CUSA is playing in the Dallas Bowl won't the B1G downgrade their selection to the game to the 8th pick? Behind the game in Detroit?

B12 Bowl Games:
1) Sugar
2) Russell
3) Alamo
4) Buffalo Wild Wings
5) Meineke
6) Liberty

I guess this lineup would probably be acceptable to a 10 team conference poised to put an additional team every year in a CFP game.

Yeah, my bad. Got my Louisianna Sunbelt teams mixed up. The point I was trying to illustrate still stands. There was no SEC or ACC team in attendance that night in Independence Stadium.

That was an entertaining bowl game.... I kind of wish we had the Ragin' Cajuns in the AAC. One of the best nicknames in all of college sports.
