I think it might be time to let the bowtie go. Jeez.

Quote:When talking about the long courtship between the Big Ten and Notre Dame, Gee shared his experiences in dealing with the school.

"The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week," Gee said. "You just can't trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that."

Quote:When talking about what the Big Ten was looking for in a school during expansion Gee said the top goal is to "make certain that we have institutions of like-minded academic integrity. So you won't see us adding Louisville." Gee would then go on to say the Big Ten wouldn't be adding Kentucky, either.

Then, after being asked what his reponse would be to SEC fans who say that the 14-team Big Ten can't count, Gee responded with "you tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing."

Quote:"No one admires Jim Delaney more than I do — I chaired the committee that brought him here," Gee said. "Jim is very aggressive, and we need to make certain he keeps his hands out of our pockets while we support him."

The only smart thing he said is that they should have taken Mizzou and Kansas when they had the chance.

For the record, "Those Damned Catholics" means the folks that run Notre Dame not all Catholics in General.

People need to stop and breathe. We are trained by the media to be way too damn sensitive whenever we see such talk. That is how they sell what they sell. If people weren't so damned sensitive, they couldn't do incomplete stories with the purpose of inciting anger.

Obviously he was talking to a group of people IN THAT COMMITTEE that for the most part share his feelings about Notre Dame else he wouldn't have felt so comfortable to speak that candidly.

I have met a lot of folks "of the faith" that have a VERY shallow spiritual life. They more or less just belong to a Cult. They like to be "part of the group".

The President of a high profile university like Ohio State should be intelligent enough to make that point clear without the need to backtrack or apologize. Since he didn't, he deserves all the criticism he's getting. The man should watch what he says better, or keep his mouth shut in public...

He wasn't IN public when he made the comment. *** **** it...what is so F'n hard about this concept for people to understand? The minutes of the committee meeting got leaked.

He only apologized to be politically correct because of oversensitive people who turn every little comment into something much bigger.

He was talking about Notre Dame officials not acting very Catholic. He wasn't insulting the entire Catholic faith. Get some perspective instead of just lashing out because you are Catholic.

Private conversations don't exist anymore. Everything is fair game.

I suppose that is the case but private conversations DO exist. Its just that sometimes they get publicized.

... especially if you're a public figure.

I'm an atheist, dude. I could give a 01-rivals about Catholics, Protestants, or any other religious group...

But Gee was in a public place. The committee meeting is of concern to the public. Reporters planned to publicize the details of the meeting and he knew it. Anyone in such a high profile position should be smart enough to figure out that anything they say can and will be monitored, and anything of a questionable nature that he says will be questioned. The fact that you have trouble figuring this out shows you have trouble understanding what people around here are talking about, because you're too hung up on the Catholic issue. I've made no secret of the fact that I'm an atheist. Yet you said, "Get some perspective instead of just lashing out because you are Catholic," in response to my post, which seems rather silly now that I've reiterated to you about my lack of any faith...

You need to get over yourself and your preconceptions, dude. Any public figure who says something stupid, no matter the setting, is setting himself up for ridicule. This is the electronic age, and somebody is always watching. Anyone who doesn't realize that is an idiot, whether it's E. Gordon Gee, you, or anyone else...
