"The ACC wasn't an option"
Calder said the Blue Jays considered other conferences as well, but there were no serious talks with the Atlantic Coast Conference.

"The ACC wasn't an option," Calder said. "I had tried to reach them and did not hear anything back from them. My assumption is that because they do not allow non-full time affiliate members or associate members, it really wasn't an option."

Certainly suggests the ACC is planning to stand at 5 and/or wait for someone to add D1 lacrosse from within.

not surprised. Hopkins wouldn't have added much to the ACC (besides being a sixth team) that it didn't already have except for spiting the B1G.

Makes sense, especially if the ACC knows that 1-2 teams will be adding MLax in the near future.

I thought I heard a rumor that Louisville would be adding Men's LAX. Right now it's a club sport for men, but the women field D1 LAX, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was added.

Hopefully. Anything to help the sport grow is a good move in my book.

Jurich did say we'd be adding a couple of sports when we moved to the ACC. I think it'll be women's gymnastics and either men's Lax or Wrestling. My money's on Lax, since the scuttlebutt is that there might be 2 new Lax programs playing in the ACC in the next couple of years... and now we know one of them won't be Hopkins.

I'd trade wrestling for LAX. Especially if it doesn't get back in the Olympics.

I wonder if this has something to do with the whole Maryland thing. ACC might not want to get mixed up with another school from the state.

That makes zero sense to me.

No mention at all in that article about JH keeping there independent TV deal with ESPN. I'd really like to know if they did because I think that is the real reason the ACC wasn't interested.

Yeah, that makes no sense. If anything, losing MD should motivate the ACC even more to get a team like JH.

If jaminandjachin is saying that they went B1G because UMD is in the conference; there may be something to that. I'm sure they wanted to keep at least 1 of their traditional rivals in conference.

What I'm saying is politics run very deep. This thing between the ACC and Maryland has gotten ugly and a number of politicians have gotten involved. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes. ACC didn't even return the phone call. They could have at least said "thanks for the interest but we're good".

As far as I've seen, they did keep their ESPN deal...
