RE: WVU - VT agree to home & home
WVU really needs games like this with all the conference mates being so far away. I wouldn't be surprised if you start to see them start up a series with schools like Pittsburgh, Louisville and Cincinnati in addition to ECU, Maryland and Virginia Tech. They could easily have 2 of those opponents and a "buy" win yearly.

Respectfully disagree. I love the Maryland game, but I am taking another series with Virginia Tech before anyone.......including Pitt.

I agree. The Maryland game is great for our recruiting but there are some great players in the Tidewater area.
This game will be great for the fans in the southern part of the state.

Really expect WVU and Cincinnati to get a series going. Maybe once the ECU series is over

Good news for the fans of both schools. That series and the W. Va vs. Pitt series should never have stopped. Part of the problem with all this realignment.

I hope not. Business decisions don't always please fans, most of whom want things to get settled and stay that way...

unless I'm mistaken, they weren't bought out, they were pushed back.

In 2021 & 2022. That's a heck of a long time from now. I would assume Beamer won't be coaching at that point.

I wouldn't assume that. Frank went ahead and had his Knee replaced and lost a lot of weight so that he can coach longer.

Great news for WVU...this and if the Maryland series continues would give them two traditional rivalry games.

VT and UMD is about as good as WVU can do for local rivals unless they want to sign Cincy. Pitt is trying to get PSU back on the schedule full time and there has been no mention of PSU wanting to start a series with WVU. I agree, it will give them 2 good rivalry games.

Probably not. Neither VT or UVA want to move the commonwealth cup off of Thanksgiving weekend.

Complaints about fan behavior. All water under the bridge now. I imagine if WVU had left the BE and VT got left behind in 2004 that our fans wouldn't have been all sunshine and rainbows either.

I didn't mean that VT-WVU would be replacing or diminishing VT-UVA, or anything like that. I just figure that the ACC office will give some kind of weight to UGA-GT, FSU-UF, SC-Clemson, UL-UK, and that VT-WVU might get the same treatment. (Frex, you wouldn't want 5 conference road games the same year you travel to Clemson/UF/UGA/WVU.) I'd think the same about say Syracuse and Rutgers signing a long-term Labor Day weekend series.

In a nutshell, the bitterness was caused by Virginia Tech joining the ACC. Some folks on here forget that the original plan included Miami, BC, and SYRACUSE. Virginia Tech joined WVU in a lawsuit with the other schools that were being left behind. Obviously, as the Virginia political scene intervened, Syracuse got dumped in favor of Virginia Tech who withdrew itself from the lawsuit. Prior to 2003, WVU considered Virginia Tech as little brother. WVU helped get them to become full members of the Big East......even their logo has a similar font to WVU.

This also came exactly on the heels of a series of MASSIVELY intense games between the two schools. It all kind of went down hill from there in regards to fan behavior FROM BOTH SIDES of the rivalry. All of this made it ripe for a series that probably did need a break.

Interestingly enough, whether either side cares to admit it, there are many similarities between the schools and fan bases.

That could be the case. I'm not sure on the details of the original contract for the ECU series. I thought those 2 games were bought out, but they could just as easily have been pushed back a couple of years...

At any rate, the games didn't happen when they were originally supposed to happen, which was the main point to this discussion...

I wonder if AD Luck is realizing the B12 is not going to expand towards the east, and to please the fans more he's working to get back some old rivals and build on new ones in the area. As someone said earlier, I can see UL, Cincy, Maryland, ECU, and Pitt all appear on the schedule in home and homes....not sure if multiple would be in one year or not with a gimme win game. But I'd say Luck will concentrate on regional rival games to offset the rest of the schedule so far away.

The main purpose is to fill the stadium and generate interest in the program. High profile teams, especially when they're old rivals, help that process a good bit. But high profile teams that aren't old rivals will do just as well, if necessary...

This is one rivalry that should never ever be allowed to be skipped or dropped for any reason.
Ever. Both great schools fans should never allow it to lapse again.

RE: WVU - VT agree to home & home
It's going to take a while for all the realignment to settle in and make its way to the schedules. The dates for VT are so far in the future that nobody attending WVU or VT would have been living the last time the 2 schools met on the gridiron. It will be the same for any future WVU-PSU series. I just hope we don't have to wait that long to get a game scheduled against Pitt...

Frankly, I'll be shocked if Pitt and PSU ever play WVU in football moving forward based on what I've heard.
