For Iowa its all about wrestlling.

23 national championships in my lifetime including 9 in a row.

No, the NC was in 1935. But SMU was also the best team in the nation in 1982 (11-0-1). They should have been #1 instead of #2. Penn State (11-1-0) got the national championship due to sentiment for Jo Pa.

Had SMU won that NC in 1982, I'm not sure they would have kept it since that was when there were some new Nissan 300Z's in the football team's parking lot.
