Where "was" ECU? In a conference with Memphis, UCF, SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane. Where are they going? To a conference with Memphis, UCF, SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane. Is the AAC better than the new C-Belt? Yes, but Holland is using past tense. In reality, the AAC is the old CUSA.
ECU and the others just moved the stay the same. And that's better than falling behind, but not better than before.
But USF, UConn, Navy, Cinci, and Temple were not in CUSA. Also CUSA didn't get 2 million a year in media (I know, 2 million sucks too, but it more than they were getting). Additionally, the coverage (90% of all football games on ESPN/ESPN2/ABC/ESPN-U) is a significant improvement.
Doubt we get 90% with Fox, but between Fox Sports 1, 2, College, the regional networks and CBS Sports, I bet the new CUSA gets a pretty good amount of air time too.
I definitely think CUSA will see coverage improve over CUSA 2.0 despite the loss of some of its best programs. With Fox, CBS, and NBC, there is simply far more time to go around now.
Definitely won't be as much national coverage as what the AAC gets, but if its on TV somewhere, that means I can at least go to a bar and watch the game.

I agree with your point about more coverage. But 3 of the 5 teams you mentioned were at one time CUSA members themselves.
And were not where ECU was when ECU got the offer to upgrade to the AAC. Hence: Quote: It's certainly better than where we were. ... We got a lot of mileage out of C-USA, but C-USA continued to hemmorage (sic) members.
Arguing whether or not CUSA v1.0 was or was not better than the AAC is entirely beside the point for a school when CUSA v1.0 is past history, and a member of the weaker CUSA v 2.0 gets an offer to escape the descent down to the weaker still CUSA v 3.0.

Even if its the exact same, the CUSA TV package will be a huge improvement to the incoming schools. However, the addition of some Fox Sports-1 games represents a clear improvement in the CUSA network package. Im not sure I can say the same about games on Fox Sports-2. CBS-Sports is in only about 50 million homes. Fox Sports-1 is in 81 million homes---but Fox Sports-2 is in a paltry 38 million homes. Fox Sports-2 would actually be a downgrade from CBS-Sports. That said, its possible Fox Sports-2 is better than coverage on limited Fox Sports Net RSN's (kinda hard to say, just don't know enough at this juncture).

Can't really say anything bad about Terry Holland. He's just saying the politically correct thing. I imagine he knows he'll meet up with a few of those new CUSA teams in the future, conference wise.
