SEC already had a spot with the Liberty so how is this any different?

It's officially SEC vs B12. The SEC included the Liberty in the pool with the Belk and Music City and the B12 already signed a deal a while back with that bowl. It's gone and now it appears any hope of a legit bowl for the champ of this league is gone as well.

Shared in the sense that the Liberty is in a shared range of selections with other SEC bowl games, not that the SEC will share the Liberty with other conferences.

@McMurphyESPN
With Liberty aligning with Big 12 & SEC, American now must find another bowl to place its champion

I am not too worried about this. Once again bowl games are exhibitions anyway. It not like this conference isn't going to have enough bowl games for its teams.

I don't get how with the AAC having Memphis along with UCF, ECU, and Tulsa usually making strong appearances when going that we would lose out completely on the Liberty Bowl.

Well according to McJackass it just happened. I may hate the guy and believe he has obvious anti-AAC and specifically anti-USF bias, but when he reports something it's right.

It's different only in that we were assured by many (not all, but many) Memphis fans that the Liberty would never, ever, turn its back on Memphis and its conference, despite overwhelming historical and present-day evidence that the Liberty cares about the SEC more than anything else.

It's a question of prominence, not volume. The American has now lost its most prominent postseason showcase outside of the New Year's Six.

Let's think about what you said. The AAC offers Tulsa, Memphis, UCF, and ECU.

The SEC offers Arkansas, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, Mississippi State, Alabama, and Tennessee.

Gee, that's a really tough one to figure out, eh? 07-coffee3

Feel free to spell out the silver lining in this for the AAC. This was the last shot at a bowl that would be worthy of sending the champion to. This is officially time for the meltdown.

I'm guessing B12 moving in pushed this as sec basically shared liberty/compass before and seemed to even favor birmingham.

I feel bad for "Grey". He has stuck by the notion that the Liberty would not turn its back on Memphis for so long, since the day Memphis joined the Big East/AAC. I really wish he had been proven correct.

As for "meltdowns", no need. If this report is true it's just another Aresco failure. Throw it on the pile ...03-phew
