I bet you won't ever guarantee again that the Liberty Bowl will not turn its back on the University of Memphis. They just made the best business decision for them. I guess they figure the loss of U of M fans will be overcome by more B12 and SEC fans attending.

I can't imagine there will be much of a backlash. We've never even played in the game. The AutoZone Liberty Bowl is good for the city and I hope they do well. Once our league is solidified and Fuente has us contending, things may change.

It sure would be nice to dis-associate with the Liberty Bowl altogether.

Exactly. Agree with you and georgiatiger. By no means is this good for Memphis, but it is clearly the right decision for the Liberty Bowl game. Can't say I'm happy about it, but I don't blame em.

The Liberty Bowl by securing the SEC and the Big 12 is doing what's in the best interest of the Liberty Bowl ...which is good for the city of Memphis and what's good for the city of Memphis is good for the Univerisity of Memphis

The Liberty Bowl is trying to be the best Bowl it can be

the SEC and Big 12 over the american is a no-brainer

# 1 priority is what's good for the city of Memphis

anything that makes Memphis better should help the Univeristy of Memphis

kinda like Fed X is great for university of Memphis ...or Beale street ..anything that makes the city of Memphis more appealing is good for ur school

The Liberty Bowls job is to promote Memphis

We should present the campuses of all the region's colleges as marketing opportunities to prospective visitors and tourists. Its an opportunity to attract new applicants, new blood. Probably an uphill argument on this thread, but regardless of what happens, I think that's the best practical approach. you can't control what the LB does, but you can make the best of the opportunity. Show visitors how great of a campus and school the U of M is. Highlight the improvements.

Very poor and simply invalid examples. None of those entities are in competition with the University such as this. Regarding "The Liberty Bowls job is to promote Memphis." .... correct, and you promote Memphis by promoting the University of Memphis and thus by yielding credibility to its conference.

I think the Big 8+4-2-2+2 is being vastly overrated in all this as well.
Unless it is Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia and maybe ... maybe Oklahoma State, I simply don't see the Big 12 as really bringing that many fans here either. The Big 12 is a fraction of the travelling fanbases it retained prior to losing Nebraska, Mizzou and Texas A&M (Colorado is N/A).

SEC vs. AAC would have been best. The champion of the AAC would be thrilled to be here and usually bring as much/more than the Big 12. The #6 team from the Big 12? Not so much (and please see the above regarding their fan bases post realignemtn).

I may be the eternal optimist but let's try to look outside the box. The LB threw the Big 12 a bone last year (while screwing Ark. St) by taking Iowa St. Maybe this SEC-Big 12 alliance is a precursor to UM joining the Big 12 in their next round of expansion.

No, I'm not kidding. It's not my job to figure out how they do it. Without the Tigers to fall back on, someone would have to actually get off their azz and do some work marketing the place. Or let it die. Their problem or their opportunity.

The local hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions do not need the Tigers in the LB. Nothing in it for them. The out of town visitors pump needed dollars into the economy.
