I'm no fan of the AAC, but things just keep getting worse for them (and any other nonP5 for that matter). We are ALL on ship full of holes.

This was speculated it would happen months ago. It just became finalized recently.

So again, the Power5 think they're going to have 10 teams from EVERy damn conference qualify for the bowl games?

That's all I see.. "9 of 14, 10 of 14, 11 of 14"... They do realize if they chop out the Go5 games, they're not going to have that many teams qualify if they keep this up (unless they change the NCAA bowl rules).

Correct. What will then happen is that it will unpredictable for Go5 fans as to which bowl their team will be going to. It used to be pretty easy to know that your team was either going to game A or game B, and you could plan for either contingency. This unpredictability will likely make it harder to turn out in the largest numbers for Go5 fans, thus driving the idea that Go5 teams shouldn't have the tie-ins because they don't travel well.

A little cynical? Sure; but it looks to me a bit like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'm here, what do you want. We are losing bowls to the SEC, not CUSA, the MAC, or the Sun Belt.

This is one of the reasons ECU fans said the AAC picked up them.

RE: OT: Belk Bowl to drop AAC for SEC
I'm assuming rules will change in the future requiring teams to have a .500 record to be in a bowl (they already have for teams that drop below .500 after playing in a conference championship game). I suspect we'll see winless conference teams or maybe a team with just one conference win in a bowl in the future.

I also wonder what the networks will think about their September schedules when all the top teams are afraid to play anyone of note in their non-conference schedules. After all, the top teams can't afford a costly loss so the match-ups like Oregon-LSU I think will be going away.

Who? The same group that runs this bowl has hosted our games in Charlotte vs teams like Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and South Carolina for years and it's not like they gave CUSA a bowl bid then. That didn't mean that we weren't one hell of a draw or would support their bowl. If it wasn't a successful venture they wouldn't keep wasting their time with us ( we play there every 3 years since 1999). We were part of the largest crowd to ever see a football game in NC when we played in Charlotte a few years back. This is bigger than that. Memphis has supported the Liberty Bowl for decades in their home stadium. Getting the SEC is apparently just to much of a TV draw.

There were plenty of ECU fans on this board that said that. I don't have time go through the hundreds of threads after you guys got an invite. I never said CUSA got bid from them or ECU fans didn't support the games in Charlotte, you implied that.

My point, which was simple, is that ECU's invite to AAC didn't strengthen ties to the Belk Bowl which some of your fans claimed. The Belk Bowl has seen how Cincy, UConn, and USF fans travel....like crap.

I'm sure having us in the conference didn't hurt in these negotiations and will not in any of the other bowl negotations the AAC does end up with. We pull a lot more fans but about everyone in the SEC averages at least that at minimum and travels well. You can't really blame them going with multiple options yearly or the SEC brand for TV. We weren't the problem.

I'm not to worried about it until we start losing tie's to conference below us. Regardless every school that goes 6-6 in the AAC is going to be playing in a bowl somewhere tie in or not. These bowls also wheel and deal all the time to get appropriate matchups. If we got good teams tehy will find them good matchups. Bowls like us too. I know we've gotten better matchups than we really deserved in the past just because we travel.

6-6 ECU vs 8-4 Maryland
7-5 ECU vs #22 10-2 Boise State

are a couple examples. I know one year the Liberty manuvoured to match Louisville and Boise St up.
