ND football player/roster map
I stole this from another board. It was interesting (to me at least) to see a map of the different states represented by ND's current football roster.

ND players come from 28 different states and the District of Columbia.

Does anyone else have a map of where their favorite team's football recruits come from?

I don't have your fancy maps, but here are the states of Northwestern recruits over the last 5 years.

California 9
Colorado 2
Florida 8
Illinois 20
Kentucky 1
Louisiana 3
Massachusetts 1
Michigan 4
Missouri 1
Nevada 1
New Jersey 4
Ohio 20
Pennsylvania 7
Texas 10
Wisconsin 1
95 total

Here's the same numbers for ND
Arizona 2
California 10
Colorado 1
Connecticut 2
District of Columbia 1
Florida 14
Georgia 3
Hawaii 3
Illinois 6
Indiana 9
Kentucky 3
Massachusetts 1
Michigan 2
Minnesota 1
Nevada 1
New Jersey 6
New Mexico 1
New York 2
North Carolina 6
Ohio 13
Pennsylvania 4
South Carolina 2
Tennessee 1
Texas 7
Utah 1
Virginia 2
Washington 1

105 total

To me those numbers don't seem too different. ND has a few more recruits in total, and more from Indiana, Florida, and North Carolina. Northwestern has more from Illinois, Texas, and Louisiana.

(If anyone wants this info for another school, let me know.)

Not much different, but 15 states (Northwestern) versus 28 states and D.C. (ND).

I know from a friend who is a recruiting "insider" for ND that the Irish are targeting Louisiana this year and in the future much more than in the past ten years or so.

It's the coach. They love him down there from his time with the Florida Gators. He is widely looked upon as an absolute stud at recruiting in Florida. That is why Tennessee was drooling for him.

A lot of Catholics there, more so than most southern cultures.

Interesting stuff. What this says to me is that while ND has more of a national recruiting profile than most schools to fill out its roster top-to-bottom, it's also more Midwestern-centric than a lot of the school's fans want to admit (with the concentration of Ohio, Illinois and Indiana recruits). California, Florida and Texas are states that Northern schools generally try to hit hard, so it's not a surprise to see large representation there. The main surprise is the lack of recruits from the state of Michigan - I would have thought there would have been more Michigan recruits at ND than from its own home state of Indiana.

That Midwestern centric model may be (and I think is currently) changing with the move to the ACC.

I count only 4 Midwestern guys out of ND's 17 current commitments (from 14 different states) in this recruiting class.

ND is now making a more concentrated effort to recruit Louisiana and the Southeast (Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida).

Everett Golson is from South Carolina, Stephon Tuitt is from Georgia, Louis Nix is from Florida, etc...

Alabama - 53
Florida - 7
Georgia - 20
Indiana - 1
Kansas - 1
Maryland - 1
Mississippi - 5
New York - 1
North Carolina - 1
Oklahoma - 2
Tennessee - 2
Texas - 2

I would suspect the additions of Georgia Southern and Georgia State will affect UAB as much as any other G5 program. We have always heavily recruited Georgia. The Alabama numbers inched up last year under McGee.

ND has averaged 5 or 6 recruits a year from the IL-IN-OH group and a class size of 21, so 4 of 17 is about on pace.

The biggest difference between ND and NU recruiting does seem to be the east coast though. ND has at least 2 from GA, SC, NC, VA, NY, and CT, while Northwestern has none from any of those states. It instead has a few more from TX\LA (13 to 7) and from the B1G footprint (56 to 41). It makes sense that even schools that recruit nationally get more from their conference area, whether the Atlantic Coast or the B1G.

I made one of these as an undergrad in geography a couple of years ago... Oh I wish I had saved it now. It was a lot of NC,SC,GA,FL. Straight down the pipeline. That was also in 2011.
