RE: Windows 95 turned 18 today
I remember a client, who while looking over my shoulder as
I worked on his design project said "Hey! Your running Windows"

I could hear my Mac cry.

I remember that my parents went right out and got an Aptiva. It was so expensive that we had to wait until it was paid off to get the internet.

My very first computer was DOS based. I was about 4 or so when we got it in 1986-7. I vaguely remember having to type in commands to pull up the list of games. Played a lot of 3-Demon, The Black Cauldron and Karateka. I think we also had Jeopardy and some Chicago Bulls basketball game that my brother was always playing.

I remember those days. That scheme - while virtually groundbreaking at the time - is garish by today's standards.

There was a good version of Acquire available for DOS.

I didn't change to Windows as an OS until Win98. I didn't love it, but it worked fairly well.

There has been a lot of defense of Ballmer in the last few days, but clearly the crap that MS did under his watch, he deserves scorn.

Virtually groundbreaking?

Apple was already on System 7 in 1992.

RE: Windows 95 turned 18 today
First computer I used was an IBM 704 circa 1964. Used in a class on FORTRAN IV. In 1967 I was writing software for the Apollo space program on an IBM S360-65.

I never learned to wire boards for unit record equipment even though they were still around.
