RE: Old Dominion at East Carolina Game Thread
Well this is going to be a fun thread to read Sunday morning either way this goes. There's going to be a serious reality check for a group of fans after this one. Either the ODU/Heinicke hype train is going to be silenced for a while or ECU fans are going to get a really big slice of humble pie.

ODU/Heinicke at ECU = Manzell/Texas A&M at Alabama. Count it!

ODU will probably **** in their pants when they walk into our stadium.

No, no they won't.

A quarter of their depth chart is from high school playing infront of a couple thousand fans probably. 50k this Saturday. I'm sure our massive crowd will have no affect when none of them have ever seen anything like it. 07-coffee3 Welcome to big boy football.

As I type this I feel undeniably unoriginal posting that image. Oh well.

I feel like ODU's offense will surprise ECU's defense, but ECU's offense will simply overpower ODU's FCS level defense.

I see the Pirates winning by 17-21 (or more)

I am not saying we won't come out flat or whatnot. But it will be mental mistakes caused by ECU.

But this thread is going to be entertaining come Sunday morning.

I don't question Heinicke's ability or any of that, but have you ODU guys ever heard of Case Keenum? Keenum went to Houston he owns a lot of NCAA passing records and now he is a backup for the pro team in Houston). Other quarterbacks that played in CUSA includes Austin Davis (USM; backup quarterback in St. Louis); Dominque Davis (ECU; backup quarterback in Atlanta); Kevin Kolb (Houston; backup quarterback in Buffalo); G.J. Kinne (Tulsa; backup quarterback Philadelphia Eagles); Joe Webb (UAB; former backup quarterback for Minnesota switched to wide receiver). There are others, but I can't remember them all right now.

This year's CUSA features Cato at Marshall and Carden at ECU; both of whom are probably just as good if not better than Henicke. So ECU and these other CUSA teams are used to facing quarterbacks like Heinicke. I think that ODU is going to score some points, but your quarterback will not be the best that ECU faces this year. Every school in CUSA is in a shootout pretty much every week. The teams that play defense are the teams that usually win the conference.

Despite the pre-game hype, I think that no matter the outcome of this game, the tone here on Sunday will probably be one of mutual respect, and looking forward to playing each other ooc in the future. At least that is my hope. OK, back to trash talk for now.

Marshall's. That is going to be hilarious, because Phil Steele has set some of their fans up.

I was talking about out of ECU and ODU.. I have one I want to see. But I'll keep it to myself, because if we lose Saturday, I may be melting down on Sunday myself.

So ODU fans, what do you think will be the minimum number of points you will score against the ECU D?

I agree........MU fans every year try to win games on paper with only one second place finish in their eight year history in Cusa. Teams like USM, ECU, and Tulsa let their talking be done on the field with past championships to show. ODU will get there but it will take time.

RE: Old Dominion at East Carolina Game Thread
Here's the thing with the ODU and ECU game. If ODU loses, there'll be some meltdown from those who are claiming ODU to be the next big thing in college football, but it won't be bad.

If ECU loses, you'll have more fans being self loathing and calling for Ruffin's head. Either one could be entertaining, or could be a pity party.

I want to see the meltdown of a fanbase that has high hopes and have them dashed by a team that they're supposed to beat. And don't say USM, we haven't won a game since 2011, we're numb to it.

RE: Old Dominion at East Carolina Game Thread
I'm not sure why ODU's fan base would meltdown. It's our first FBS game. Are a few predicting a victory? Sure. But I think most assume it will be a loss and will be more than happy if ODU is able to stay competitive. Now, if ECU were to lose I could see a full fledged tail-spin.

Someone asked the minimum amount of points ODU should score and I would answer 28. I have heard a lot of hype that both teams defenses are improved. But at this point that is all it is, words. If ECU holds ODU under 28 points I'd say your defense is probably poised to help your team do great things this season (assuming ODU doesn't crap the bed entirely which is possible).

A friend was like "Let's make a bet. Whoever's team loses they have to wear the other teams shirt after the game." Before I could even answer he goes "Wait, now that I've said it out loud that's a crap shoot for me. If you win I have to wear a ODU shirt in front of thousands of ECU people if you lose you just blend in."

We're going to score 35 points - all rushing touchdowns. I suspect we'll dominate both lines of scrimmage. Our only weakness is our placeholder. But if he can keep the laces out, this game is over at half.

this is going to be an interesting game. In the pickem I went with ecu, but I picked odu to have the most passing yards out of the losing teams.

You have an 'all universe' QB, but all of the TDs will come from the run? mmmmmk
