You have an 'all universe' QB, but all of the TDs will come from the run? mmmmmk

Ever heard of sarcasm?

It will get out of hand so fast that Heineke will be warming the bench by some time in the 3rd quarter.

RE: Old Dominion at East Carolina Game Thread
This is the game thread not a smack thread. ODU faces an FBS opponent for the first time. At their place. A tough challenge no doubt.

Clearly ECU will want to welcome the Monarchs with a can of reality wuppass. But I think the ODU coaching staff will have the Monarchs prepared for all facets of playing as the underdog.

I hope the opening night jitters are gone before kickoff. Booing the hell out of the ODU players as they enter the stadium should do the trick. It will no doubt gets their adrenaline going.

For ODU fans, this is will be an emotional moment as they have lived through the anti-football Jim Jarrett years and have waited a long time for this to happen. I think this in itself is a victory for ODU.

I give the Monarchs a realistic chance to pull an upset.

Good Luck to the Monarchs!

Doubt there will be much boo-ing going on. Contrary to what most Marshall fans on this board think, we have some class.

Only thing I'm worried about is trickery. I think ODU knows they will have to think outside the box and resort to asymmetrical warfare and hope it wins out. Curious to see what they have planned. Whatever it is, I don't think it'll work for very long if at all.

QB rushes all 5...fact, not smack...if I wanted to talk smack, I'd post it there.

That would be entertaining to watch.

I think Terry Williams and friends will have something to say about that. As a strategy, I think that would be suicide for ODU to do in their first game. Why risk your star QB's health? The season is effectively down the drain if he gets hurt right (not that I want him to get hurt)?

I think ODU has a better chance of competing later in the game. I'm not too worried about getting worn out. I'm more concerned about the team being overzealous and overhyped at the beginning of the game, especially with so many inexperienced guys starting. If they can stay in the game long enough to "calm down", they should be OK.

We probably won't even punt once. I don't see ODU stopping ECU on a single offensive possession. Couple that with the fact that TH will be constantly picking himself back up, wanting to quit due to the barrage of FBS hits he's never taken before... ODU fans will realize that this is a different game at this level.

ECU by 4 TD's minimum, and that's because we call off the dogs early.

From my observations we've been a "second-half team" for the last season or so, but that will be seriously tested in Greenville. We've climbed out of holes before, but odds are it will be a deep one this time.

Are y'all freaking kidding me? The difference between FBS and FCS is at the greatest contrast in the second half. Your S&C just can't and won't compare.

I think our offense might keep up in the first half, and maybe our defense won't be as porous as expected. The second half will be rough. Your points are relevant. Relax.

We've played against some pretty solid D-lines, with players now in the NFL. I'm not too sure about this.

The ECU defense will get to him at least once, but hopefully we can bring in an extra blocker or two (TE?) to buy Heinicke some time when necessary.

MY PREDICTION

To tell the truth, I just don't know how this one is going to go. I do believe ODU can win it, but I also believe ECU should win it. So I'm just going to predict it the way I would like to see it.

ODU 37 - ECU 35

ODU wins on the strength of four Heinicke TDs (3 passing and 1 running) and three Brown field goals. The win is sealed with an interception of a Carden pass attempt on ECU's last gasp drive.

GO MONARCHS!

That is pretty much how I see it. Less overall depth will probably be the difference. ODU should be game for a while though like Appy State was last year.

Yeah...I'm an ODU guy, but half our roster was recruited for FCS ball, and even though there are some FBS caliber players in that group the majority is not.

And then we do have some FBS recruits, but obviously they are going to be very young.

It's going to be tough.

But I'm just happy it's happening. We're starting what could be a really cool journey on Saturday.

I have no clue how it will end up...I can see nightmare scenarios for both sides. The experience level of our team makes me feel better about this game...My fellow ECU fans may want to look back a few seasons ago when JMU beat Va Tech to understand that ODU can beat us at our place. I will be happily surprised if ECU blows them out..I expect it to be a hard fought game will us pulling away late.
