Next weekend, the Reds will unveil the Joe Morgan statue honoring the great second baseman. (any Reds fan that thinks Brandon Phillips is as good or better than Joe Morgan is crazy) During the event, all of the greats will return including Bench, Perez, Rose, Morgan, Geronimo, Griffey Sr, Concepcion, Foster. In my mind, looking at the statistics and play as a team, this was the best team ever to take the field. No exceptions. It happened for two years, right here in Cincinnati. Some facts:
-Reds won 108 games in 1975
-3 MLB hall of famers, if one includes Rose, the number moves up to 4 in the starting lineup.
-won back to back World Series titles beating Boston in 1975 and the New York Yankees in 1976 sweeping through the playoffs in 1976 without a loss beating the Phillies in a series 3-0 and the Yankees 4-0.
-what a team
-I told my son yesterday when Votto tried to run off the field with 2 outs and bases loaded, that I NEVER saw Pete Rose or Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench or Tony Perez run off the field with less than three outs. They always knew the count, the out totals. It simply never happened.
