Hate to burst your bubble, but what happened back in the days when a field goal was worth 5 points, the forward pass was illegal, and the teams used a round ball(like a basketball) doesn't mean squat. Thats why we use the past 50 years, the modern era as a true indicator of where a program stands. Even though we have had the superior program in the modern era(before '97 m*ch*g*n's last championship was 1948), I must give m*ch*g*n some credit. They have been able to hang with us keeping the series at a 24-24-2 deadlock(though that is mostly because of John Cooper). But after this year Tressel will be 3-1 against the bad guys which is pretty close to our overall winning % for the modern era(both 75%).

Well, I suppose that pretending that 66 years of the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry are meaningless is one way to somehow manipulate the overall record to make Ohio State appear to be a better team than it truly is. It seems a shame though, since the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry has consistently been voted as the greatest rivalry in college football.

This strikes me as yet another example of the famous Buckeye "selective amnesia." For example, who could forget the fact that four years BEFORE the OSU band ever performed the famous "Script Ohio," the Michigan Marching Band spelled out the word “OHIO

OSU needs to find a good punter, improve their OLine, and figure out a way to stop Braylon Edwards and the rest of our WRs....... unless that happens we could very well see another 35-21 game.

I suposse the best part of the worthless nut time line is that according to their rules, their 2000 national fraud championship will be meaningless in 48 years

We could argue this all day. Nobody is forgetting the early success Michigan had, but the point could be made that they have rode that early success into the latter half of the 21st century.

Stu made the point that Ohio State has had the better WP in football the way it is played today, in the modern era, which is true.

We have all probably argued this many times, and it is like arguing apples and oranges.

Unfortunately I do admit scUM has a better tradition of a winning football team than MSU :bang: and many other sources would spot scUM as having more than two nc's. Just goes to show that stats can be bent to make them say just about anything you want, and its sad that today we still do not have a clear cut national champion every year :mad: .

mgoblue.com (Michigan's official athletic website) recognizes 11 NCs. There are 11 NC years on the Michigan scoreboard.

8 of them are prior to the polls (for the '47 NC, Michigan won the post-bowl poll despite ND winning the pre-boll one), but I could care less.

I'm honestly more proud of UM's 41 BigTen titles b/c all 41 cannot be disputed in anyway or form....... NCs are obviously not this way, and I like the fact that they're like that..... LSU and USC BOTH deserved the NC last year...... I'll regretfully admit that Nebraska somewhat deserved its 97 NC (although Osborne tactically said he would retire before the Orange Bowl)

OSU has been more successful since 1950..... Michigan has been more successful all-time...... does anything else really matter in this argument?????

Ohio State folks continue to show their inferiority complex in posts likes this one. They like to define what is the "modern era". Thats laughable. College football dates back to 1869 in the East and from 1879 in the Midwest (Michigan). The entire record is what counts, not as some individual chooses to define it. Hell, to an 18 year old the modern era would probably only be back 25 years.

Actually jrizzo, you don't have to admit that the Wolverines have better winning football team tradition than the Spartans. It is a recognized fact for all to see in the history books. I just posted the following reply to one of your posts on another topic, but it probably bears repeating here.

Michigan has played MSU a total of 96 times.

The first game was in 1898, the last in 2003.

Michigan has won 62 of those games. (yes, 62 games!)

MSU has won 28 games.

And there have been 5 ties.

That is a Wolverine winning percentage of 61+%. (Yes, I know, it is impressive.)

As for MSU keeping it close ... hmmmm, I was in the Big House in Ann Arbor in 2002 when ... gee, let me see ... the score was Michigan 49 ... Michigan State 3.

Just in case you have forgotten that Wolverine dismantling of the entire Spartan team, here you go! (Please be sure not to overlook the total rushing yards for the Spartans.)
