Marshall doesn't look horrible in their opening exhibition
Quote:HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In a game that had five members of the Marshall men’s basketball team score in double-figures, freshman Ryan Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the way with a double-double en route to a 94-60 win for the Thundering Herd over Concord at Cam Henderson Center, Monday night.

Coach Tom Herrion played 12 of the 14 on the Marshall roster, including eight newcomers as the team combined to shoot 54.1 percent from the field and outrebounded the Mountain Lions by 23, helping the Herd to a decisive victory at home.

I think most of those were missed ally-oops, which probably won't happen in a real game.

Didn't look horrible? Are you kidding? They only won because of who they played. That team has no discipline. Throwing terrible alley-oop passes (1-10), Pittman taking two steps past half court and launching a three on a fast break (no one down court), horrid turnovers, and abismal free throw shooting. I am sorry but if we played a quality opponent say Akron, WKU, LaTech, or S.Miss we would have gotten run off of that floor. Toward the end of the first half we were shooting 38.5% from the field and even worse from the free throw line.

I know I know. It was just a scrimmage. Well we couldn't shoot a lick last season from the floor or the line and we turned the ball over like crazy as well. It looks more of the same. I like the players we have but I do not like our coach. If we win more than 15 games I would be shocked. The only reason we won but so much last night was because it was a NAIA school. Just like last season we would score and not get back on defense and they would just run down and score.

It was the first scrimmage of the season and there is another 2 weeks of practice before the real games start. There is a tone of talent, and the more they play together, the better they will get.

Also not that it matters much, but Concord is NCAA D2...

While I agree it was sloppy, the talent that that was shown by Kareem Canty. Chris Thomas, Ryan Taylor and the rest was very obvious and showed why they were all highly recruited 4 & 5 star recruits. The key will be them playing as a team and if they can adjust to each other then this season could be much better than anyone saw coming. I think no matter the talent though we lack a solid inside game. However the days of dominant centers are all but gone but still going to be tough when we play someone with a solid inside game.

I have no quams with the talent. It is as good as advertised. I am not sold on Herrion as a HC.
