I've got a crew of four coming down for the game this weekend. We're planning on getting to Hattiesburg at least a few hours before kickoff to take in some of the gameday atmosphere, and staying in Hattiesburg that night. Can you give any recommendations on where the good tailgating spots are on campus, and what to do and see around town after the game? Bars, restaurants, etc? Thanks in advance.

RE: Southern Miss fans
I'll throw some places with good food that I know of and I'm sure there'll be a few others that'll give some good locals as well.
Po-Boy Express- Not far from campus and it's a USM favorite.
Mahogany Bar- On Hardy Street. Good food and drinks.
End Zone- Not far from campus. Little bar with pool tables, etc. Can't speak for the food.
Mugshots- great burgers and drinks (before the original went up in flames, they used to have live music, not sure about the new place)
Keg and Barrel- Cool bar with all kinds of beer on tap
Ropers- Country bar with a huge dance floor
Leatha's- Great BBQ
As far as tailgating, just head to campus and the areas not roped off you can park and tailgate. You can find your way over to the front of campus and there'll be a ton of USM faithful and some will probably invite you over for a beer, sweet tea, food, etc.

Thanks. We're definitely going to Keg & Barrel. We're pretty big into the craft beer scene and I've read reviews on that place.
Is the 'front' of campus the main gathering point of tailgating? Where exactly is that street-wise?

Hardy St., right off of 49. Can't miss it. Has the new Golden Eagle statue and whatnot.
Wish we had a better product, the game day atmosphere won't be much.
K&B is a really "chill" spot to drink. They have some really good food as well. The loaded fries are legit, as are the fried green tomatoes.
Mugshots is great if you want to go and watch all the other college football games....84 TVs, plus 2 in the men's bathroom.

Hattiesburg has really grown. They have a Mc Donalds, a Subway, and a Waffle House

Hope you have a good trip. A shame you won't get to experience what a normal gameday is like at the Rock. Last week's game was beyond sad. Not only were there maybe 5,000 in the stands when the game started, but the tailgating was pitiful also.

There are more or less three lots designated for RVs AFAIK. The Payne Center lot is overflow, though, which means it won't be used for RVs in the near future. Your other choices are near the baseball stadium and at the extreme north end of campus just off Seventh Street in the lot next to Hillcrest. I'd call the athletic department as soon as possible if you want to bring an RV to campus...parking can be a mess on gamedays even during 0-fer-24.

I was there. I don't drink or generally engage in masochism, so I skipped the tailgating and left at halftime...but I was there for the 90 minutes or so that mattered the most.

RE: Southern Miss fans
Thanks again for the recommendations guys. Had a great time despite the cold and wet weather. We hit up Keg and Barrel, The Endzone, and Mahogany Bar Saturday night. Enjoyed the hell out of all three.
Certainly one of my favorite stadiums I've visited, and I've been to a ton. Wish we had a stadium as cool as the Rock. Hope we can continue playing once USM goes West. Would love to make the trip to Hattiesburg again.

Thanks. Hope to make the trip up there sometime when we field a competitive team again. The Rock is even better when 30k are there instead of 7k lol
