This is going to be fun......
I must say, the game between us and WKU tonight had a really good rivalry/conference game feel to it. This is going to be a fun basketball league folks. I truly believe this league could blossom into a 3-4 team bid at some point. Some great rivalries in the east will be brewing over the years between WKU/Marshall/ODU/UAB/CHarlotte/ and MTSU.

RE: This is going to be fun......
eh I don't see it being a 3-4 bid league. Not with any consistency anyway. I think 3 might be possible on rare occasions, but it'll be 1 or 2 bids most years. Too many bad programs at the bottom that have poor facilities and haven't really ever shown that they care about basketball. Also too many schools scheduling weak, weak programs and DII schools. To make things worse, they lose to them!

Sorry, UTSA is definitely one of those teams to blame. I think right now its all about building up the football program and the rest will follow.

FAU occasionally showed some promise in the SBC, so you may be able to throw them in the mix occasionally as well.
We were the definition of mediocrity in basketball for a decade, Kermit Davis spent his first 9 or 10 seasons winning 15-19 games, I think one year we might have won 13, but outside of that one year, at least 15, no more than 19.
Seems we've finally figured out, it's still early, but this looks like our third straight good season.

I'm honestly not a believer in MT right now. I wanted to be, but after seeing the 2013 and 2014 classes filled with mostly JUCOs, I'm skeptical. I don't believe you can build a consistent winner with half of your roster being junior college players.
Hope I'm wrong, but I'll have to see it before I believe it.

That's fine, we spent a decade doing it the traditional way with tepid results, we've won a bunch of games over the past two years and have the nation's longest home winning streak, it's working for now.

Fun? Yes.
3/4 bids? No.
2 consistently? I don't think that's out of the question once things shake out, but 3/4 is a lot in our "Power Conference" world we all live in. I just hope they stop calling conferences "BCS" in college basketball. It's so *** **** ANNOYING!

CUSA will be a 1 bid league most of the time. Once every 3 to 5 years you will get 2 schools in.

AAC board this is not. You have no idea what this conference can or will do in future.

I've had many years to feel this way. But one thing that basketball experts will tell you is that Kermit is a brilliant X's and O's coach. Over his first 10 years, we were never bad. He averaged around 17-18 wins it just wasn't championship caliber basketball. His problem in taking that next steps was modifying his own approach. He had over 30 players leave the team in those first 10 years. He figured out two things. 1) He had to adjust his philosophy. He tried to coach every kid exaclty the same. Certain players respond to different motivations, so he adjusted. 2) He stopped redshirting freshmen. A lot of times they wouldn't make it back the next year or even make through one year and we lost some really good players that he wanted to redshirt as a result.
We have two freshmen that are playing a lot of minutes right now. One of them scored 17 points last night. He also scored 13 at Florida. You give me a freshman that can scored 30 points on the road at Florida and Murray and I'll tell you that you have a baller. The other freshman already has a double-double under his belt, so it's not like we're relying solely on jucos.
Lastly, we only have four JC's on the roster. That's not a lot IMO. And even if it is I don't see it being a big issue. Recruiting JUCO heavy in football will catch up to you, but the basketball roster is different. Hell, look at Kentucky. They only keep kids for a year or two and then they are gone.
There is no doubt this team is loaded with talent (I believe more than last year's team). With a lot of new faces, they're still trying to figure out roles right now. They don't have much more time to do that though. Schedule gets a lot tougher in December and league play is basically only a month away.

Im not baseketball fan, but I think a lot of the FAU fans are pretty unhappy with Jarvis right now as coach. Yes he got us the SBC championship and NIT berth in 2011, but weve had MASSIVE defections of kids leaving school either due to grades or other issues. I dont think weve had the same starting line up for about 3 years now.

I have watched Marshall play in the Southern, MAC, CUSA 2.0, and now what will be CUSA 3.0. This is the most excited I have been since the Southern, but lets face it we are at "best" a two bid league. I agree with what somebody else said too many programs that appear to not care about basketball.
However, the great thing is with Memphis gone we all have a legitmate chance of winning the league every once and while.

You only need the top half of the league to be good to place multiple teams in the tournament. The CAA proved that repeatedly. You just don't want the bottom half to epically suck...although, again, the CAA proved you can overcome that too.
