In addition, Phil simply offered his personal experience during that time period....I'm sure there were nice Nazi guards too, but no one would think that was 'waxing nostalgic'.

The people of Duck Dynasty are going to make more money off of this "controversy" than Miley Cyrus will off of her little rendevous with Robin Thicke.

It's sad to see entertainers make themselves part of the cultural wars. It's just stupid to wade in on polarizing subjects when you depend on public opinion to generate revenue. DD is a bit of a special case though since their core audience generally approves of the sort of bigotry Phil spewed. They will get bigger ratings in the short-term, but advertisers are going to have a harder and harder time sticking with the program. The pressure and protests are limited to DD right now, but they will eventually spread to A&E's other shows. It's going to be nothing but turmoil until DD is dumped. I doubt A&E will keep the show past this season, but it can go somewhere else under a different name.

DD will eventually be reduced to just it's core audience because expanding the audience base is now impossible. A major portion of the American public wants nothing to do with perceived bigots and racists. It's sad that Phil has branded himself and his family that way.
