I think we could all benefit by using less of it, but I fully understand how vital it is to our every day lives.

As far as plastics go though, I do try to buy plant derived plastics where possible, but I don't go out of my way to do it.

No he hasn't. Once again you are wrong. He pushed for one wind farm in Texas as a way to curb the edge while we increased domestic drilling. Obama, restricted that drilling on federal lands, and pickens moved the farm to Minnesota. He then sold his stock when the Democrats wanted to extend the tax incentive on wind power past Dec 31.

BTW, Pickens has not publicly declared party affiliation.

What I can't figure out is how birds most always avoid getting hit by a car, but can't manage to stay out of the way of a windmill blade? I doubt they have piles of dead birds at the base of each windmill.

I will say that I actually drove past a windmill farm yesterday, and their appearance is interesting, but I'm sure the sight of them would quickly grow tiresome if I had to look at them on a regular basis.

Hawaii is a bit different than the rest of the country since they have an independent grid.

There were a lot of concerns that solar would wreck the grid in Germany too and that hasn't been the case, despite having several days the last two years where solar was providing 50% of all power on the grid during peak hours.
