He's in the right place now.

This board seems to be as dead as our recruiting. Hoping Mick lands one of his targets.

Well, apparently, he's just now figuring out you need really good players to win big, not to just play hard. We need some bigs that are bigtime but he doesn't have a good record in that area.

Obekpa set to transfer from St. John's. Dare we try again? Or do we stay away from the handlers?

I have a better chance at being offered a spot on the UC basketball team than Obekpa does.

I think between he and his street people/handlers, he is way-y-y above our salary cap.

Recruits' families apparently still think it, FWIW...

Which recruit's family made those comments?

I deleted my posts on the subject, for concern about further derailment. I will post my thoughts about this on the b-ball recruiting board from now on.

I asked b/c I have never heard this before. I have heard other reasons bball recruits pass on us, but never b/c of an image issue.

Moved my comment over here. I have nothing specific, and the recruits will obviously never say anything direct about it, but it has certainly been a factor. If you look at all the UK fans, and even Purdue posters, calling Ellis a "typical UC thug" or the like, it is pretty clear the image isn't dead.

Angry fans/message board posters are different from a recruit. There are many non-UK fans who believe UK is racist. However, this does not prevent UK from recruiting players.

Players and their families meet the coaches, talk to the players, and make campus visits to see the facilities. They attend games to check out the environment and see how the coaching staff interacts with its players. If a player were to use this as an excuse, they have not performed their due diligence and did not make good use of their recruiting process.

I don't get the idea that the "thug image'" is widespread and in the forefront but a well placed whisper to a recruit or more importantly to their parents from an asst. from another team or AAU team asst. might bring it to the forefront and cause research into this area by parents. Unfortunately, I'm old enough that I still envision thug image of Miami when I see them on tv., it's just there in the back of the mind.

You bring up a great example. The U has/had a renegade/thug image. Their well deserved image does not seem to hamper recruiting. I watch The U these days and do not see the same type of foolishness they used to exhibit in the 80's and early 90's.

Tre Scott reminds me a great deal of JJ on this dunk, posted by SC coach Rehfeldt https://instagram.com/p/4-XUAkQjO0/ Apparently kid is already at 220 though.

Yeah, saw that too. That kind of build with those kind of hops... I think he looks like he might seem some minutes this year. I know he won't get a lot this season, but still. Pretty damn mature looking athlete.
