RE: Runningbacks and the TU Offense
And the hits just keep on coming.

I initially thought Sorrels would be the next C Clay/W Carter because of his recruiting video, size and speed but it just never seemed to work out. It just seems like there is something wrong with the program when we lose kids everyone thought would be good players and had bright futures ahead, but are gone in the blink of an eye.

There is a magnifying glass on the program right now and being forced to let good, athletic kids go when we seem bent on getting more walkons "scholarshipped" seems highly suspect in my mind. But I keep saying "winning solves everything" and if BB starts winning again, all will be forgotten. If not, then we'll be asking who the next FB coach will be?

I saw a little video of practice on the TU site yesterday and it showed the Dickerson kid who looked "OK", but the first thing that ran through my mind was - "That sure was a big hole they opened up for the new kid". I just hope that wasn't "manufactured" for the TV cameras to give the fans hope or that it was against the scrub defense. I sure hope it was the scrubs because if it wasn't, our defense needs a lot of work.

imo

RE: Runningbacks and the TU Offense
In case you all hadn't heard, the new JUCO RB (T Dickerson) broke his collarbone today. Its obvious that BB had ticketed him to take over for Trey.

This offense is really going to be very ugly if we haven't changed some things. BB was touting the hard work of the fullbacks today. I guess they are next up to be converted to RB. Or . . . . . . We could open up the offense. Na! Why'd we do that!

Once again, I think they need to take a look at Nelson as RB - if at all possible.

But what do I know?

Yikes, that just what we need, less talent on the field......he might be able to come back for the season though.....some part of the season!! I'm not getting the feeling a lot of people are very excited about this coming season....it's almost like, who is the next coach going to be???? That isn't a good way to start a season!!!!

RE: Runningbacks and the TU Offense
I think a lot of us had serious doubts about the durability of Dickerson because he had been a "situational" RB in JC. Now we may understand what the concerns were. If you can't be an "every down" RB in the JUCO ranks, I'd say your chances of being that at the DI level aren't good. So I think its questionable whether he will ever play a lot for TU in this run heavy offense. The one obvious requirement in BB's offense is having a durable RB who doesn't tire of giving the extra effort every play. RB's have to be durable - unless they have someone to relieve them as JT did for Trey.

One of the things I noticed reading the article on the scrimmages was that they are touting Flanders (who is about the only remaining healthy RB we have for spring practice) as the "MAN". Well imo thats highly debatable right now for a variety of reasons. What we have (I believe) is a run heavy offense with only one healthy RB's. That is a prescription for disaster.

I guess what BB should have done and didn't, was to recruit RBs for the future instead of just rely on who he inherited from the time he was assistant coach under TG. Or, he could have been prepared to change his offensive schemes. But if you look at the other "skill" positions, they aren't much better off. When you have to rely on freshmen at the skill spots, ususally the result is not particularly good.

IMO
