Bowdens have been "linked" to every job opening ever at UAB. I don't want any Bowden.

Wooooooow. MT @BFeldmanCBS Am told Garrick McGhee will resign as #UAB's head coach to go join Bobby Petrino's staff at #Louisville.

Unless encouraged to leave this is a bad look for UAB that their HC would rather take a step down to be an OC than be their HC.

To me, it says just that much more about UAB's governing body, a totalitarian board of trustees and a toothless, impotent athletic department that has to suffer in silence and pretend everything's going to be hunky-dory. As well as a spineless sellout city government that has allowed its' once-relevant status as a football city go to the highest bidder with nothing to show for it but an obsolete laughingstock of a football stadium that NO ONE wants to play in of their own free will.

From all early indications, it seems this way. Former players and fans alike are speaking out about McGee and the overall vibe I'm getting is that they're glad he's gone.

At this point, how desperate does a coach have to be to take the UAB head coaching gig?

RE: Garick McGee no longer at UAB
he went 2-10 last season losing to a defeated USM team (i.e. the team had given up on the coach by then) defeating a 1aa team and one of the F_U's

Neil Callaway would have done a better job than Mcgee over the last 2 seasons.

As the dust settles UAB will be fine. We're not going to the FCS and we'll hire a new coach to replace him. Mcgee was a dead man walking and did our athletic dept a favor by resigning. We don't have to pay a buyout

Does UAB have a coach on the present staff that would be a good choice as head man? If so that would really help with continuity and upcoming signing day.

UAB Fans: Why doesn't South Alabama have all of the issues with the system that UAB does? I don't understand how they seem to be thriving and UAB is suffering so badly.

Most of the defensive staff was already fired. OL coach just left for Akron. I have no idea who is even still around.

USA is not in the UA system. UA system only includes Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, and Birmingham.

South Alabama has its own board. So does Troy. The UA System BOT is only in charge of UAB, UAH, and Tuscaloosa.

Because South has its own Board separate of UA.

the alabama system is UA-tuscaloosa, UAB and UAhuntsville

Auburn has themselves and a AUMontgomery

Troy has its online campus and one in Montgomery also

I feel so bad for UAB. They seem blocked at every turn by theier board.

Just not fair. Either give them the tools to survive or cut the throat on Football.

I'm disappointed, but not THAT disappointed. 5-19 and getting worse.

UAB will hire a coach and field a football team next year. It's all good.

But how do you dig your way out of this? It just seems insurmountable as long as you cant build quality practice and support facilities and/or the city is willing to make even minimum improvements to Legion Field.

we hire a new coach and continue putting teams on a field.

We aren't dealing with our entire team dying in a plane crash #Marshall, sanctions from cheating #SMU, or APR sanctions like we did in 2006.

We lost a coach... it happens in this line of work.

Even if we did get the money to improve practice facilities we would not have them before the new coach gets hired.
