That's wrong on so many levels.

Agree Bruce - IF Bohn can get the program into a P5 conference I'm sure Mick will be shown some love... until then I don't see much more happening in the budget unless a very rich alum/sponsor steps forward.

Do Kroger and P&G have a problem with UC? I can't believe we have two companies that size not willing to put some money into UC athletics.

I've wondered the same thing for years. In Springfield, MO the Mo. St Bears are well supported by the local 'big' companies. I just can't believe UC doesn't get some major athletic support from Kroger and P&G...

Now would be a perfect time for P&G to announce a giant donation.

How about the Cincinnati Enquirer donating some big bucks?

ON Broo's show he just stated that there is no new contract right now for Mick and that he is very frustrated by this and that numerous schools have already asked about him this year. Any knowledge from anybody.

If Broo is going to say something like that he needs to present sources. Otherwise he is jst trying to stir things up. I don't think Broo has ever been know for his extensive research into matters relating to UC.

How about the Enquirer giving UC the coverage every other decent sized program gets from their local paper? I'd be happy with that.

Actually, I took it that he was defending Mick and UC better be careful with what they have going right now. We kept hearing about this new contract but in fact none has been put forward.

I thought Cronin just signed a new deal with UC and it was for a decent sized raise???? In fact I recall people on the main board congratulating us on getting Mick signed. What was that for then? Im confused.

wow...ok

I hope we get the man a fat deal and also at least sit and map out how we are going to get him what he wants on paper with some sort of action plan in place, i.e. arena situation, private jet, etc etc etc

Is that a joke? The Enquirer can't even manage to cover our team in a favorable light. I doubt they will part with their money on our behalf.

In this day and age of the internet, and online news, I doubt any newspaper is actually swimming in money anyway.

I heard a lot of things, some from very reliable sources, but it turned out to be nothing. Unless... they are waiting until the season is over.

It was "in the works" when it was reported 3 or 4 weeks ago, but as Cronin said at the time, he had nothing to sign. I haven't heard anything about it since but given the fact that there were details about length of contract and total compensation, I would have to imagine it's just details and legal stuff being ironed out.

I'd be very surprised if Cronin was frustrated unless something went badly wrong during the back and forth since the initial report.

RE: Mick Cronin appreciation thread
How predictable were the Enquirer's lackluster coverage today and Broo getting on the radio to rain on the parade? This is indeed a strange sports town; no time to savor a spendid season and conference championship in a town with precious few real winners in recent years. So within 24 hours of clinching we're worrying about the rebuild for next season and Mick being courted once again?

While I bellieve it's accurate to say there isn't a completed contract, Mick gave every indication in several media reports a few weeks ago that he has a great relationship with President Ono and a deal would get done. He made it quite clear that this is where he wants to be...as he has said repeatedly every year. UC will get this done. They have a new revenue stream from the Big East split and replacing Mick on the open market would likely cost almost as much as retaining him on a long term contract.

I've tuned out Sunday morning sportstalk and I'm surprised that college basketball came up at all; usually all Reds and Bengals 52 Sundays a year.

I was in the car coming home from the gym and heard it. He had Jerry Palm on to discuss whether Xavier was a lock for the tournament or not. Palm threw in that he had UC as a three seed near the end of his call. That was when Ken went on his rant about the Bearcats losing Mick.

As others have stated the media in this town has a strange hate/hate relationship with the university that bear's the city's name and has 150K alums living nearby.

RE: Mick Cronin appreciation thread
Pretty typical concern trolling by Broo. I remember during the entire undefeated UC football season of 2009, every sunday morning he just couldn't bring himself to talk about the sheer joy of the team winning week after week and steadily climbing the polls, but just kept harping ad nauseum about how BK was leaving for ND. What a buzzkill.
Doubtful Ono would have tweeted something about an extension if it wasn't close to happening. Probably more a matter of ironing out details and then once that's done, waiting for the BOT's next meeting in order to approve it. Having the AD up and leave about a month ago probably also slowed things down as well.
