RE: Feb 8 and 9 basketball games
Saturday:
1:00 PM Middle Tennessee St (95) at FIU (207)

Take the MUTTS as they continue to try to stay a top 100 RPI team.

3:00 PM Tulsa (133) at Rice (294)

Tulsa in a run-away game.

4:00 PM UTSA (295) at ECU (200)

The new arrival puts the hurt on the run-aways.

6:00 PM UAB (154) at FAU (247)

As much as I think UAB will have trouble on the road, I'm giving the Blazers this one in a squeaker.

6:00 PM North Texas (195) at La Tech (75)

La Tech continues to make their bid for an at-large if they dont' win the conference tourney.

6:00 PM UTEP (90) at ODU (173)

How is UTEP so "low" In RPI when their only bad loss was against New Orleans. UTEP wins in one of those "starters and no depth" games.

Sunday
1:00 PM Marshall (272) at Tulane (226)

Marshall comes back a little po'd at how they let USM get away with one. Marshall blows this one up with a win.

1:00 PM Charlotte (120) at USM (36)

USM _finally_ wins one on a last second shot... but this is a rough three-game set, so they can't let the escape be the "high point" of the week. USM wins by about 8.

Off-topic, but does anyone have video of Pierria Henry's final 3-point attempt at the buzzer against Tulane last night?

Well, a win is a win. Good game, FIU! Wish I could've made it out to the game but UM was playing NCSU and lost a heartbreaker too ;(

Colorado St. 11-10 (4-6) 82-74 W
Tennessee 13-8 (5-4) 78-70 W
Sacramento St. 7-11 (5-6) 69-51 W
New Orleans 6-10 (2-2) 69-71 L
Northwestern St. 8-11 (5-3) 84-74 W
Washington St. 8-13 (2-8) 64-51 W
Montana St. 8-12 (5-6) 70-55 W
Western Ill. 6-13 (3-4) 67-64 W
Denver 10-11 (4-3) 60-54 W

Well, if RPI is driven by opponent's record, we've beaten a lot of teams either hanging around .500 or well below. I know it's hard to schedule. Colorado St. was a tourney team last year, but lost their entire team. Western Illinois and Denver won 20+ games last year, but have obviously taken a step back. We need to do a better job scheduling next year.

Strictly a guess but teams get a "boost" by getting road wins. You've played 5 road games (3 of those have been CUSA games) and 3 neutral site games. I assume that is part of the reason but I do agree that your wins do look good

Just from looking at those games, almost every team up there is subject to having their RPIs torpedoed in conference play if they fail to play well above their conference standard. Only Washington state is really immune to that among those teams. Your ship is sailing pretty well this season, but you are dragging a sea anchor through your wake unintentionally.

Two heartbreakers in a row for Marshall. They are gonna give someone some grief in the tournament.
