Any of you wrestle in HS?
If you did you will find this impressive. We had an offensive lineman sign from VA. As a junior he was 52-0. So far as a senior he is 40-0 and only two of his matches have made it to the second period. Unbelievable stat, he has not even given up a point all season.

Who is he? Virginia now has 6 classes for public schools, so it's severely watered down. And Heavyweight is typically the thinnest weight class in terms of depth. Now, if he places high at Nationals, I'll be impressed!

No, but I'm sure you can learn reading comprehension there.

He's got to be talking about Jordan Dowrey, HWT from Handley HS (AA). And he's a DT, not a OL.

RE: Any of you wrestle in HS?
Norfolk is legendary for wrestling. Home of Coach Billy Martin and Granby High School. From the Virginia Sports hall of fame website...
"Martin led Granby High School to 21 State Wrestling Championships. He compiled a dual match record of 259 wins and 9 losses, which included a 76 match-winning streak, the longest in Virginia history. Out of the nine losses Granby suffered under Martin, two of them were to college freshman teams. Granby's 21 State Championships is the most ever compiled under one coach by a high school in this country." One of his sons is the wrestling coach at ODU now and is building a future powerhouse. Too bad CUSA doesn't have wrestling. We compete in the MAC.

To be more technical about it ODU has had two of Ol man Martin sons lead the Monarchs at ODU! Billy Jr, led the team in 86 but got busted. I am product of Steve and Waynea Martin at Great Bridge. I think the state of Virginia has deluded wrestling. now you can have six state champions in one weight class. Smh

Wrestling just isn't nearly as big of a sport in the south as it is in the north. High school wrestling was pretty much unheard of in Texas in the '80's. I don't think any colleges/universities in Texas have wrestling. It is growing, though.

RE: Any of you wrestle in HS?
My in-laws in PA did wrestling.. My FIL and my BIL were both wrestlers.. My BIL now lives in Oklahoma and it's big there so when his son is old enough, he'll probably wrestle. My FIL's brother actually worked with Team USA for years with their wrestlers.

Me, I grew up in MS and it was unheard of. A couple of years ago I did catch wrestling while trying to learn MMA. I no longer do it.

You would think Marshall would be natural for a wrestling program. I've been to just about every championship event there is in sports. For my money, nothing beats the 3-day NCAA Wrestling Championships. Eight mats running with some of the baddest hombres on the planet. It's sensory overload!

Very impressive. I wrestled my senior year and got 4th in the State of Texas back in 1986. Never wrestled before. I was watching a dual meet and told the coach it looked easy. He asked me if I wanted to try it. I lost my first match on points 13-8 without even a practice and because I didn't know what the hell I was doing. After that, coach said take them down and let them up. Finished the year 38-4.

Great sport. Wish I would have found it earlier.

I attended granby camp twice a summer from 96 to 02 at Hampden Sydney. The stories I could tell on the Martins.

RE: Any of you wrestle in HS?
Coach Steve is SO different from Coach Martin. Steve is loud and active. Coach Martin was calm but with dagger eyes. We've been to a couple of ODU matches since Steve has been there. Plan to go to the last home match on the 23rd. At the other matches we attended the fans were so quite. I was yelling like we did at Granby. Think my husband was tres embarrassed! A classmate of ours who lives in Thousand Oaks went to some of the Freestyle events at the LA Olympics wearing an old Granby High school sweatshirt. He said multiple people came up to him asking if he rally went there! Agreed WRESTLING is great..Wrassling is an embarrassment and should not be allowed to use the bame!

He's going to play guard here, or at least that's where the coaches project him. We got a heavyweight wrestling champ from Florida too. Tomell One won regionals and is moving on to state, he's undefeated this year. He's slated as a DT here.

I like it when you get big boys who also wrestled. For those that have never done it, I think it's the most physically demanding sport and great training for linemen. You have to have great balance and a great understanding of leverage.
