Rutgers is inching closer and closer to the Top 25. A win next week (which should be academic), and a few losses and Rutgers will be in the Top 25.

Yeah, that victory over FAMU was pretty darn impressive. 01-wingedeagle

College football rankings were, are, and always will be a joke.

Its a shame that PITT shat themselves. I'd watched MSU's previous two games on gameplan and thought Pitt would blow them off the field for sure.

Analysis Of Writers Poll
Some analysis. I am pleasantly surprised that the writers did not try to sneak Florida or Michigan into the #4 spot and screw West Virginia. I also had a suspicion that they would try to stick Virginia Tech above Louisville but that, thankfully, did not happen either.

Their old ACC habits still have not died though. BC should be ranked above Clemson who should be ranked above Florida State. I suppose they are voting on "talent" or how they think things will fall by the end of the season but that is so not the case right now.

Another surprise is their advancing TCU up four spots to #16. Boise State getting in at #25 so early, after a lackluster win, is interesting too. Michigan State got more love from the writers than the coaches after their big win. Texas Tech lost a lot more votes too.

Tracking how they treated losing teams ... LSU fell four spots (6 to 10), Notre Dame fell ten spots (2 to 12), Tennessee fell just two spots (13 to 15), Oklahoma fell just two spots (15 to 17), Florida State fell nine spots (9 to 18), and Nebraska fell four spots (19 to 23).

Continuing with a look at the losses ... Miami fell more than eight spots (17 to NR) and Texas Tech fell more than one spot (24 to NR). How the heck did Arkansas get two votes? Maybe some writer down there attended the Houston Nutt School of Ballot Voting.

All these polls are popularity contests. Only those programs that are always under consideration get the benefit of the voters doubts. Any team not in the good ole boy network is lost.

Does anyone know the last time 2 Big East teams were ranked in the Top 10? I'm assuming it was back in Miami & VPI's heyday.

-- In the last yr of the old league...Miami, Va Tech and Pitt were all ranked in the top 10 at the same time...I think it was only for a week or two though

-- How is Miami still getting top 25 votes??

Ugh. You had to remind me of that game. Miami had barely squeaked by West Virginia a few weeks earlier and Pitt was the last hope to keep them from winning the league, and BCS bid, in their walk year. Yet the Panthers, despite still having Larry Fitzgerald at that time, promptly went out and got pimpslapped by the Hurricanes. Bad memories.
