Off to Spokane
Does anyone know when the team and the pep band are taking off for Spokane?

Researching the place, it does not appear to be an entertainment hot spot that can get our students in trouble.

RE: Off to Spokane
I'm guessing with the distance requiring plane travel very few UC students will make the trip. WHy the committee sent a bunch of east/midwest teams out to Spokane baffles the mind.

Spokane has no business hosting. There are NO teams close outside of Gonzaga. Even if all the regional teams had made it in, its 300mi to Seattle, 400mi to Boise, even more to Eugene or Corvalis.

I guess we have an advantage over coming from MA? And East Lansing is closer than Delaware. The whole stinking pod is racking up frequent flyer miles!

Next year Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington host second and third round games. 16 schools have to play in the Pacific Northwest next season, awful.

The good new is that Columbus, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Omaha, and Jacksonville are all logical first weekend sites. I would have dumped one of the Pacific Northwest sites with a site in the Midwest or Southwest. Honestly, I am not sure if there should be a Pacific Northwest site every season. I would rather play in California before going to Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Also, any playing sites with crazy altitude should be off limits too.

Instead of Spokane there should be have a site in Ohio this season. Actually there should always be a first weekend site in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, or western Pennslyvania . One it allows easy travel for the play-in game, second there is such a large concentration of teams in this region that not having a site in the region is negligent.

It does seem illogical that if you're going to award 1st weekend games to Louisville, Columbus, and Pittsburgh that you would spread them out over multiple years. No local pods this year followed by all 3 next year is strange.

Dumb question maybe but who pays travel expenses for these games? NCAA, University or Conference?

even more confusing is why would a committee have 11 and 12 seeds eliminating each other in a Play-In game? that one is a head scratcher.
I WONDER if the Selection Committee are alumni from Special Ed classes. Shouldn't it be 16th seeds and 4 others after that seeking to make the tourney?

The 16th seeds are all Conference Tourney Champs and by rule must be in field of 64. lowest At Large are playins.

Honestly, I have always thought that there should be eight 16 seeds to give them all a legitimate shot at winning a tournament game. Unfortunately TV MONEY wins out since they would probably have worse ratings than including at large teams in the mix.

RE: Off to Spokane
I like 64. Back when they added the first play in game due to the creation of the Mountain West Conference, I thought they just should have reduced the at-large bids. The big money conferences wouldn't have it. Then it was seen as unbalanced and unfair, so they added a play-in for each region. So to avoid giving the shaft to the small schools and further diminishing their part in the dance, they forced two of the match-ups to be for bubble teams.

If you try to please everyone, you please no one. IMO tourney winners should be in...if there MUST be 68, the bubble teams need to "play in".
