Navy won't join the BEast, unless things change in the way the major service academies do business. It's ok for Air Force, but a REAL service academy is above that. Or so they think.

Navy is getting away with it out of conference but conference teams would figure them out fast since conference games are scouted heavier. They don't have size and speed to consistently compete in a conference situation. It's nice to do that against UConn, but what happens when you play a "lower tier" team like Cincinnati that is fast and hits hard and is physical? Then follow it up with Syracuse? Then South Florida? Then Pitt? Then Rutgers (they'll get a look at them)? Potential matchups with West Virginia and Louisville aren't even worth mentioning.

I'd say the Navy train has left.

And it's not surprising. If they had accepted BE membership then their scheduling would have too boxed in - 8 games against BE teams, Army, Air Force, and ND. That's 11 games. Not a lot of flexibility there.

I was hoping the Army/Navy scheduling alliance might have worked out whereby BE teams each year scheduled 4 games against Navy and 4 games against Army. Not sure why Navy and Army didn't go for that proposal.

Cheers,
Neil

navy would get whipped
Navy wouldn't be able to handle eight Big East games, Notre Dame, Air Force, Army, and a scrub. They would get their butts handed to them almost every week and be totally beat down by the end of the season.

Navy is playing a schedule that works for them. Most of their opponents have to put forth a lot of extra effort to be ready to deal with the triple option and all the other trick plays they employ. That's their secret.

Navy and Army probably didn't go for the 4/4 option because it doesn't give them anything they don't already get. They have TV deals. They have bowl deals. Would they want to be embarrassed in a BCS bowl?
