Excellent. I've always believed that mid majors need to hire up and comers as opposed to experienced coaches who are passed their prime.

we actually did the later but it worked out for us. at least for this season.

also regarding the ODU v. VCU thing. 90 min away and we were two of the top teams in the CAA every year and every game was a rowdy, loud sell out and a lot of times on ESPN. it was arguably the best hoops rivalry in the state of VA...what really helped fuel that rivalry was the fact that the conf tournament was mere blocks away from their campus EVERY YEAR! plus our conf final was on a MONDAY night, meaning if they were in it, it was a home game for them b/c they could buy up all the extra tickets b/c a lot traveling fans couldn't attend. then you can add that their fans ran their mouths and for the most part were very ungratious "hosts" (not saying we would be nice to them if the situation was reversed, but Richmond is their turf and they always called BS when someone said they didn't have an advantage which just made them look and sound worse from my perspective) ...and then they made the final four the same year we beat them twice in Richmond and had one of our best teams that I can ever remember us having (which lost to Butler on a buzzer beater in R1 - who later went on to the NCAA finals) so now you can add bitter jealousy on top of a solid layer of hate...another thing for me personally is that I grew up in Richmond and have a ton of friends that went there.

still a great hire. I hope he's successful at Rice as it will help CUSA and if its at the expense of VCU - even better.
