Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville and the BIG EAST Conference have announced the 2006-07 television games. The Cardinals will appear on national television four times and WHAS-TV will produce three games this season.
"The BIG EAST has without question the best TV package in the country ," said head coach Tom Collen. "We are very excited for being chosen for four national TV appearances. The fact that ESPN has chosen to do our Kentucky game as part of the BIG EAST package says a lot about the commitment of our conference. We also excited about our local television package as well. The local exposure allows people around the state to see Louisville Women's Basketball and what we are building here."
The conference expanded its women's basketball television coverage on ESPNU this year. The network will air four regular-season conference games, two regular-season non-conference games, along with the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals and Semifinals on March 4 and 5, respectively. The Cardinals will appear on ESPNU on Dec. 3 against Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. Louisville's game against Rutgers was moved from Jan. 20 to Jan. 21 to accommodate ESPNU with a game time of 7:00 p.m. With the Rutgers game being moved to Sunday, the Pittsburgh game was moved from Jan. 23 to Jan. 24.
For the second straight year, College Sports Television (CSTV) will broadcast a "Conference Game of the Week" which will include 10 conference games during the 2006-07 league schedule. The BIG EAST is the only women's basketball conference to have a "Game of the Week" package on CSTV. Louisville will host St. John's on Feb. 20 at 8:00 p.m. as part of CSTV's Game of the Week.
The Cardinals will host DePaul on Feb. 3 at Noon on BIG EAST Television. The BIG EAST Regional Television Package is new and improved this season and will include 24 appearances. The Conference has secured SportsNet New York (SNY) as the flagship station in the number one media market, and, for the first time, a commitment to a consistent time slot for a Saturday Game of the Week at noon. SNY, as one Regional Sports Network, reaches 11.7 million homes. Other RSNs in various markets are still in the process of committing and the package will also be available via RSN-Sport Packages on Direct TV and DISH Networks. BIG EAST teams will appear on SNY, along with other regional outlets, in eight regular-season conference games and the BIG EAST Championship First Round. The first-round games, and subsequently the entire tournament, will be televised for the first time in league history.
WHAS-TV, an ABC affiliate, will produce three games to televise locally. The Furman game on Nov. 19, the Western Kentucky game on Dec. 9 and the Syracuse game on Feb. 10 will all be broadcast by WHAS-TV.
