Fox primarily place CUSA on Thursday nights which is now getting bigfooted by the NFL.

When Fox signed C-USA, Fox did not have national distribution rights to any of the power 5 leagues, C-USA was their sole national college content. Now they have national distribution rights for Pac-12, Big XII and will likely add at least some right to Big Ten. They've also added Big East hoops and Fox didn't exercise their max number of games either.

Maybe CUSA gets a bidding war going and makes more money even though Fox and CBS aren't even taking all the content available to them.

What are the people at FS1 (and CBSSN) thinking?

The ratings are whatever they are, but the alternatives for FS1 are non-live programming that (from what I've seen) is of hit-and-miss quality, and generates audiences that have to be smaller than any live college sports content they would show. Production costs are not that high. They can't seriously expect to build a following for their new network based on reruns of "Crowd Goes Wild". Why not air and promote all the live content they've already paid for?

Whoa, wait, I missed that bold part regarding CBSSN and MW. They are showing quite a bit more MW games on CBSSN this upcoming season and showing some games on Friday and Saturday.

Yes ... remember that not only was the TV deal being hashed out last Spring, with last year was the first year of getting back onto the ESPN family, and note that the MWC's make-up was uncertain until the "Big East of Reno" move fell apart, with the renegotiated contract being part of the "bonus" conference payout system that kept Boise State in the fold (and two of the four "bonus" games on ESPN/ESPN2 are at Boise State).

So its not that suprising if they are expanding their coverage this year with a full year of the new contract under their belt. I don't know how many were picked up between CBS and ESPN Networks last season, but this season its 11 Friday games and 34 Saturday games.

To the extent that CBSSN is happy with games its able to source from The American for its noon Eastern Saturday game and with the MWC not only for its Saturday evening game but also for 1:30 MT (3:30 Eastern) mid-afternoon Saturday game, that could indeed put a squeeze on the value of the CUSA contract.

RE: Sun Belt to expand using current FBS members only
The easiest way to do realign CUSA and Sunbelt

1. Switch CUSA West and Sunbelt East and realign

NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, Texas St, Rice, N Texas
Ark St., ULL, La Tech, ULM, USM, UAB

Troy, USA, MTSU, WKU, Ga St, FAU
Marshall, ODU, Charlotte, App St, Ga Southern, FIU

2. Keep USM and UAB with eastern schools as they were originally apart of CUSA East

NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, Texas St, Rice, N Texas
Ark St, ULL, ULM, La Tech, Troy, USA

USM, UAB, MTSU, WKU, Ga St, FAU
Marshall, ODU, Charlotte, App St, Ga Southern, FIU

Sunbelt is sending App St, Ga St, Ga Southern to CUSA for La Tech, Rice, N Texas, UTSA and UTEP

Would current CUSA East schools really miss sending their olympic sports to Texas?

Would current CUSA TX schools really miss sending their olympic sports all up and down the east coast?

If La Tech gets in a hissy about being in a division with ULM simply keep them with the other CUSA west schools and NMSU and keep TX State with the current Sunbelt west schools in the divisional lineup.

How would this not be more profitable for all parties if TV money b/t the two conferences was close to even???

CBS is showing more MW content then before, yep they are losing interest by increasing the content they show. They pretty much kept the same TV rights and then in order to help bring Boise and SDSU back into the fold and let ESPN get involved with the extra content that adding those two schools provided.

Sure after they gave away part of the rights then realized they could piggyback on the promotion of ESPN.

They gave up part of their rights to protect the rest ... remember that the renegotiated TV and the national TV exposure bonus was a substantial part of getting Boise State to abandon the Big East of Reno plan.

And at that point, as billings points out, the expansion to 12 via two departing teams not departing after all meant there were more games to go around.
