Who else makes a day of this every year? I usually pick a few different horses and different style bets, but I've never had a winner. We always have fun trying though.

Any of you all good at picking horses and aren't supersticious about sharing? Let's hear your thoughts. I need a win this year haha.

I'm always for the horse my Louisiana boy Calvin Borel is riding. This year that's "Ride on Curlin".

I don't know if I'd want to be there. OUR track fills up with people to watch it on TV. So many people you'd think the race was here. Too many people for me. I like to watch it on TV.

Before casino gambling in La, and before the oil crash of the 80s and before OTB/simulcast wagering (i.e. prior to 1985 or so and it was still good through the 1980s) LA D was awesome. It was packed on weekends (you'd have to wait in line on Sat morning for 2 hours for a ticket to sit), the racing was very good (not great but solid), and the crowd was full of Texans playing off tip sheets. You couldn't get a hotel in Bossier - even the dive hotels were tough to get a room in. The lines in the good Shreveport Restaurants on fri and sat nights were long. Loved the place back then.

We didn't have any hotels back then. Now there are three hotels on La Downs' property.

RE: OT: Kentuck Derby
Good Derby Day drink- Bourbon Slush
Brew 2 family size teabags in 2 cups of water...make it really strong
Add 6 cups of water
Add and stir in one 6 ounce can of frozen OJ (thawed)
Add and stir in one 12 ounce can of frozen lemonade (thawed)
Pour in 1-2 cups of bourbon desired strength
Stir well
Pour into a low, flat dish (like a lasagna pan)
Freeze for at least 12 hours. Stir occasionally to make for even slushiness
Makes about 20 4-6 ounce servings
It's really yummy!
