The Minnesota Senate on Monday approved John Hoffman's (D-MN) bill to change the name "Asian carp" so called because the species originates from Asia, to "invasive carp". Since Asian carp were introduced in the U.S. in the 1970's, the fish have spread to dozens of states causing destruction in the delicate ecosystems of the waterways.

Don't they have better things to do than waste time on crap like this?

i seriously thought that the "carp" part was what was going to be racist since it is well known that blacks eat carp.

Funny you mentioned that. I seem to recall, during the war on terrorism, that some people wanting to waste their time to officially change the name of "French Fries" to "Freedom Fries".

How is it any better to change the adjectivie from "Asian" to "invasive". They're not interchangeable.

Yep, that's what I remembered too, hence the post. It was stupid then as well, just like this "Asia" carp nonsense.

No. Actually doing their jobs would involve work.

I understand these carp are yummy...and they will jump right in the boat. Last year they got within less than a mile of the Great Lakes. Fish and Game folks are terrified of the prospect of them getting into Lake Michigan.

I guess the short answer would be "Obviously not". Almost worse is the fact that this clown's constituency isn't asking the same question and at least threatening to vote him out of office for wasting taxpayer resources on junk.

I'd say that any elected official charged with allocating taxpayer funds in a judicious manner is obviously incapable of that task if they've decided this is a "law worthy" endeavor.

It's not their fault. We're the ones that vote them in. Sad.
