Marshalls D'Antoni looks to make yet another assistant coach hire....
Come on home Jeff Battle. This would be a great hire. Former Marshall player. Should be hearing an announcement soon.
http://www.wakeforestsports.com/sports/m...eff00.html
Battle was instrumental in Wake Forest's success over his 13 seasons as the Deacons ascended to the No. 1 national ranking in 2005 and again in 2009, won a school-record 27 games in 2005, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004 and won the 2003 ACC regular season title. Wake Forest averaged almost 20 wins per season and made six NCAA Tournament appearances during Battle's tenure.
Battle, a tireless recruiter, helped bring in a number of top-notch recruiting classes. Wake Forest's 2010 recruiting class was ranked No. 6 in the nation according to ESPN, while the Deacons' 2008 class was ranked No. 3 in the country by Rivals.com. Battle also helped bring in the No. 10-ranked recruiting class in 2006, the No. 16 class in 2003 and the No. 30 class in 2007, all according to Rivals. Wake Forest's 2012 recruiting class was ranked No. 21 in the country by ESPN.
FoxSports.com named Battle as one of the top high-major assistant coaches in the country in 2008. BasketballScoop.com also tabbed him as a semifinalist for its Rising Star Coach of the Year Award in 2009.

I believe this is a guy whose name was tossed around for the Charlotte job several years back.
I don't remember if he was a realistic candidate or just a name tossed around on message boards though.

I remember his name being tossed around for several head coaching jobs in recent past.

Mike D resigned from the Lakers yesterday. Do you think he'll be heading to Huntington?

Its a mystery right now. Nothing could excite Herd fans like seeing both Dan and Mike on the sidelines coaching the Herd. It could be that Mike resigned because he has another NBA job lined up. Then again it could be he resigned because he's ready to come home. He isn't walking away from 4Mill for nothing. We'll find out soon enough.

Speculation is he will take on more of a role in fundraising and become a "consultant" to the b'ball program. He and Chad Pennington are heading up our Vision Campaign - a 30 Million dollar fundraiser for athletics. I could see Mike taking on a more involved role within the AD and helping the b'ball program as much as his time allows. Possibly a great win - win for Marshall.

I have seen the "come home" aspect & recognize it often is a strong pull, so I don't underestimate that factor. Our S&C coach, Jeff Connors, came "home" to Greenville after a decade in Chapel Hill once he heard his old position was open. DC Rick Smith has kids & grand kids in the area as well, and was planning on retiring here even before getting his second run with ECU. Best of luck to them & MU.

Whether this all works out or not, (and I think it will...hope springs eternal) there is truly some exciting stuff going on with Marshall basketball. I can sense some renewed interest and energy in the Program.

Battle is a heck of a coach, an outstanding recruiter, and a first-class individual. This could be considered a coup by Marshall. I'd argue he'd be a better Head Coach than D'Antoni.
