I imagine a lot of USM Tulane games will continue, just not as conf games. Too convenient and $$$ smart not too.

Going to this new conference will probably be the final nail in the coffin for Tulane. There won't be anyone near enough to make sure they have someone in the stands for a home game now. 03-wink

What does that have to be interpreted as a "butt-hurt" thing?? I mean, I really don't expect ECU or UCF fans to understand it because they are so far away...but what nastybunch said is very true and likely. EVERY TIME Tulane plays USM in football, basketball, and baseball...USM fans outnumber them.

If Tulane can't recognize how important playing USM is to them, then they deserve to die. Apathy kills.

I know for a fact that this is true when the games are in Hattiesburg!

RE: Tulane, Southern Miss meet as C-USA rivals for final time
USM and Tulane may both be in need of a rivalry game going forward. In fact, I'm SURE of this.

USM:
1. Lost former rivals UC, UL, and Memphis to the AAC/ACC
2. UAB is a "secondary" rival only
3. Ole Miss and Miss State will not play USM

Tulane:
1. Tulane is disinterested in La Tech and UL-Lafayette
2. LSU is disinterested in Tulane
3. UH has more interest in SMU than Tulane
4. SMU/Rice games are simply too friendly to be rivalry games

USM vs. Tulane is a good idea, provided both teams are decent.

Road travel is very kind on players and fans going both ways. It's a border war.

I would ideally like to see Tulane football become good enough to take on Ole Miss in a tight game, but that's a "down the road" kind of thing.

How excited do Southern Miss and La. Tech fans get about the "Rivalry in Dixie"? I see you all just recently started playing again. It seems like a game both teams start circling every year though.

No reason not to play every year in baseball, MBB and WBB, and every 2 or 3 years in football.

USM fans could care less. Although in same conference now, at least for awhile, it still doesn't change their perception as "just another one of those Louisiana schools" except UL Lafayette which competed with us more in the past 20 yr. Most folks in the USM nation had ever heard much about Tech since not playing for so many years and Tech news just never got that far. "Rivalry in Dixie" was coined by one of their previous coaches, never became popular in Eagle land since most of our fans had never attended a Tech-USM game prior to 2-3yrs ago.

RE: Tulane, Southern Miss meet as C-USA rivals for final time
I like playing LaTech, because I like LaTech. My 3rd favorite team. I guess I'm over the "butthurt" (ECU fans seem to love that butt thing) enough to admit that Tulane is still, and has always been, my 2nd favorite team. Will really miss playing Tulane.

I now totally agree with Andre, (cue: end of the universe), that USM got what we deserve. Not gonna hate Tulane anymore. Will probably always hate Houston, because that's what Southern Miss fans do, and I'm sure I will never pull for ECU again because of their uppity, obnoxious treatment of Southern Miss since they "moved up".

Wish we had gotten the invite, but we're actually lucky to still be in C-USA with the cluster we've had for administration over the last decade.

Geaux Wave. (after this series, of course)

Eager Eagle is the only Southern Miss fan that could care less. Great addition to our conference.

RE: Tulane, Southern Miss meet as C-USA rivals for final time
I've already commented about four times about this but for the fifth time I don't want a rivalry with LA Tech nor do I like the new Crap usa. With that Tulane, I know Tulane has been traditionally good in baseball but I guess this is a down year. I know maybe two Tulane fans in Hattiesburg and they always respected USM. Not sure what the future holds for more games with them.
