RE: USA Today: Paul Myerberg CFB Countdown: 97. FAU
90. Western Kentucky

Quote:As expected, Bobby Petrino's stint at Western Kentucky lasted only as long as it took for a more high-profile program – say, one familiar with Petrino's style and approach – to roll out the red carpet during college football's hiring season. Twelve games after arriving with much fanfare, Petrino's back at Louisville.

But he won, again as expected, even if the Hilltoppers are quickly hitting the reset button. Well, that's not entirely correct: WKU isn't hitting reset as much as reload, particularly with longtime Petrino assistant Jeff Brohm stepping into the Hilltoppers' opening. Brohm isn't a Petrino by birth, like Bobby's brother Paul, now at Idaho; when it comes to offense, however, Brohm is a Petrino in spirit.

Record setting offense won't miss a beat. The receiving core is better, and doughty is settled. Leon Allen will be all cusa rb. He is Rainey 3.0, aa 2.0. He is bigger and stronger and faster than his 2 predecessors. His field vision may not be there yet, but it will get here. He will leave defenses, broken, battered and out of breath. Or defense has some holes, so I am holding to see how that works out. Might end up in some Baylor style 78-72 battles. Should be a fun, fast paced year.

RE: USA Today: Paul Myerberg CFB Countdown: 90. WKU
Offense should be improved from last season, even though we had BP at the helm we were painfully inadequate at times on offense and left a ton of points off the scoreboard....We added 2 JUCO WR's that will help our offense and based on what I saw in the spring one might be an all conference performer his first season....If Doughty controls his INT's and carry over from last 4 or 5 games last season than yes our offense should be rolling....

Defense is the big question and not sure we will be able to stop many teams, I am thankful we don't play Marshall until last game, if we played at beginning of season they might put up 70 vs. us.....We will see first game right off the bat what our defense is made of as Bowling Green is capable of running up the scoreboard too......Brohm was on Sirius XM Channel 91 yesterday and said he was concerned about our defense that it would be hard to replace 4 NFL talents like we lost last season but as a group we will be much deeper...So hopefully there is hope on that side of the ball....I foresee a 6 and 6 or 7 and 5 type season..If that is the case I will be happy with that first season in CUSA....

MT's RBs should be higher up than WKU's I'd think, just after seeing the past seasons' results...

Doubt we have one back get anywhere near the touches Allen will for WKU. I was just wondering how bold a prediction my old buddy ToT was making.

Doubt Allen will get the touches that Rainey and Andrews got but Allen is very talent and will make at least 2nd or 3rd team all CUSA if healthy...We are more of a passing offense and year 2 in the offense will mean fewer carries for Allen...He will still be a very good player....I would predict 1 out of 2 new Juco WR's will make an all CUSA team though....I think Doughty can put up some big time numbers as long as we are not playing Tenn. which we are not...

80. Louisiana Tech

Quote:Tinker away, Louisiana Tech.

Continue this painful transition on offense. The Bulldogs scuffled in the shift from Sonny Dykes' spread-based, pass-happy system to Skip Holtz's meat-and-potatoes style, falling to 112th nationally in scoring and tossing 15 interceptions – 10 more than in Dykes' final season despite making 85 fewer attempts.

The shift in scheme hits into overdrive in 2014: Holtz wants more power-based, fullback-first, four-yards-on-first-down toughness; let's hope this doesn't turn into run-run-incomplete, the snake eyes of offensive play-calling.
