Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
A lot of small earthquakes since the late last month. I think this is the forth swarm since April.

Fracking. Should have started this in the spin room. I could have had more fun with my response.

RE: Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
I wanted to keep the politics out of it. I don't think it'll blow in our lifetimes, but activity does appear to be up the past 10 years compared to the previous years of studying it. Just wild how the conspiracy nuts are running all over this claiming nonsense.

RE: Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
The volcano at Yellowstone erupts approximately every 600,000 years, and it's been about 660,000 years since the last eruption. It could blow tomorrow, or it could do nothing for centuries. You just never know what Mother Nature has in store.

RE: Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
Yes indeed Bitcruncher. But going by the previous three eruptions (2.1MYA-1.3MYA = .8MYA.... 1.3MYA-.6 MYA = .7MYA) the average time between eruptions is .75MYA or simply 750,000 years. But you're right, the thing can go tomorrow, or 100,000 years from now. There has been several lava flows and even a VEI4 (or 5) eruption 70KYA so we could be building up for a minor eruption or the big one. Impossible to tell because scientists never really studied a supervolcano months/weeks leading to an eruption of any sort.

RE: Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
There's another supervolcano in Italy that's just as likely to blow in the near future, and Campi Flegrei, near Napoli, could wipe out most of Europe.

RE: Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
Yea.... I'd be more fearful of the one in Italy or Chile before Yellowstone. Even Long Beach Caldera is possibly a bigger threat at the moment.

RE: Yellowstone Earthquake swarm
Pretty sure this isn't related to the caldera, but it is rather interesting.
