The "finer" things in life...
Anyone here have an affection for high-end things? Cigars? Liquor? Cars? Boats? Clothes? Electronics? Watches? Vacation homes? Jets?? Anything you can think of...

Anyone think it's all a huge waste of money?

If I was billionaire rich I imagine I'd dabble in each of the categories I mentioned....but for now, I'm just a student.03-zzz

I do enjoy "nice" clothes and bourbon. Not interested in luxury boating, but would like a fishing boat. No real interest in the other things.

Certainly an affection for, and desire of nice cars (Bugatti, Spyker, Porsche), and nice vacation spots. But no experience of any of those! (Well I did drive a high end Audi last year).

RE: The "finer" things in life...
I do but I don't.

I'm a sucker for anything Monte Blanc. I love their pens and cuff links. I also like their leather products.

I like 'nice' cars but short of the ubber stuff, Rolls Royce or Ferrari. I've had two nice cars so far, a Range Rover Sport S/C and a Jaguar XFR, which I still have. I've really been impressed with the new Escalade and my Jag is going on four years old. That may be in the near future. It's been flawless though.

As for watches, not really. I have a decent Tag but see no point in spending more on a watch or having multiples.

Booze? Nah, not really I'm a Jack Daniels guy.

Cigars? I like them and have a humidor but I rarely smoke them and they are all gifts.

Now, boats are another story. I've always wanted a boat, or a yacht rather. Maybe one day. The Sea Ray L65 is my dream boat.

I'm not much of an audiophile or anything like that so I don't spend any real money on that sort of thing. My girlfriend bought me a Bowers and Wilkins A7 iPod thing that I like though. If never buy it on my own.

Everybody has their thing. I still consider myself kind of cheap because I think of other things I want to do and such, like trips, helping people and family out, and just using money to be nice to folks. It sounds kind of silly and cliche but it's far more fun to buy other people things than it is to buy yourself stuff.

If I'm looking at yachts, I'm thinking a Hatteras GT70

I can appreciate nice home and car audio gear. I've invested in both myself. While not an "asset" per se', listening to stuff on "lesser" gear gets me annoyed--speakers cracking, popping, and hissing, bass bottoming out, distortion at decent volumes... at a certain point, the crappiness takes over and you can't enjoy what you are watching/listening to.

Being an art fan requires a level of sophistication I can't honestly lay claim to.

I paint here and there as well. It's simply finding the time to.

It’s how I make a living… well, somewhat.

Nothing really. At this point I can't afford any of the "finer" things and I'm 100% fine with that.

There are more ways to create art than just painting. The wife has done a few paintings, and we have some displayed here and there. Although her best work has been given to family members. But she switches mediums every so often. She was working with plastics for a while, and is currently into wearable art. She makes a lot her own clothing now.

I used to do a lot of art in wood and stone as a way to make some extra money. But today it's more of an intermittent hobby.

I'm a simple man.

I'm happy driving my Chevy truck, wearing blue jeans and t-shirts, drinking Miller Lite or a good glass of Knob Creek Bourbon, and smoking a decent cigar. I prefer the ones I used to get in Key West that were hand rolled in front of you. My guns are all Remington and Ruger.. I shoot a Bowtech Bow. I'm not fancy.

If I were to become a millionaire tomorrow. I don't think much would change. I'd build a nice house in the middle of the woods, probably upgrade my Bowtech bow to a Hoyt. Maybe use Under Armor camo.

Knob Creek is one of the better bourbons carried in NC abc stores.

Interesting that there are some art fans on the board. I have one print I got as a gift for my office. I also made an abstract painting on 3 different pieces of canvas once for no real reason. Not the artsy type.
