Someone said the World Cup makes the BCS game look like a sack race.

The Super Bowl makes the World Cup look like a 3rd rate event.

1. No it doesn't, and it's not close.

2. Did you just use the evil NFL as a reference point?

3. Boring is in the eye of the beholder. Baseball doesn't score a whole lot, either.

It's a liberal, European/Latin American snooze fest, dude.

There is an Irish bar here in Memphis called Celtic Crossing. When there are big soccer matches it fills up with genuine Irishmen, doing what Irishmen are famous for. You know getting drunk etc. I'd love to see you go in there and tell them they are liberal. I'll buy your beer, deal?

LOL yes, because I care if Irish people like soccer and must go tell them about it.

BTW, they are liberal. Most of Ireland is a shithole due to leftist policy. It became bad enough to create groups like the IRA.

WTF is going on today????

This is about the Brazilian government screwing it's people over and them fighting back, and an attempt to find out why Google would celebrate that. But it's clearly over your head, and many others so yeah, even though it's totally political, I guess you might as well relate it to being a sports thread.

my god, take your anti-google blinders off

Obviously soccer fans don't pay attention either, because nobody understands the point of this shiit.

I get it. Google is notorious for pushing the wrong cause.

The problem here is that the the game of soccer has been insulted.

The Olympics are comparatively inconsequential compared to the pressure involved with the World Cup in the rest of the world. Not sure what the problem is considering that Google is a global website.

You'll never make it here. You are much to reasonable.

thx frank for saving me from having to explain that to these knuckleheads.

just an FYI, cons making threads complaining about what google is celebrating each day is a regular occurrence.

People are dying and getting the shiit beat out of them over there right now because of the World Cup. You like celebrating shiit like that?

BS. this is the third time in the last 2 weeks we have had a thread like this. something tells me that regardless of what google chooses to celebrate, you will have a problem with it.

You should listening to something then. He's not doing you any favors.

That's like a Canadian liking hockey... I think Dixie is talking more towards American-Americans, not Irish- Americans.

Yeah, Smaug said that. Here in this country, it's just the opposite, but I didn't feel like explaining it to him.

Dude, I'm from Alabama. I don't need American football explained to me.

MY point was that the World Cup is a big effin' deal, period.

It's a big ole world.

Which was completely irrelevant to my point. But in my opinion (since we're discussing them), soccer sucks, so the BCS is was far more exciting.

Why can't you keep the debate on topic? Why must delicate people like you always make it about passive aggressive personal attacks. I don't need anyone to hand feed me my opinions.

So I don't like anything about soccer. How will you go on?

I'm being serious. You're blowing this way out of proportion....are people protesting for good reason b/c FIFA is a terrible organization? Definitely. Is there going to be a civil war started from this mess? Doubtful.

Just admit it, you guys hate everything that resembles or represents liberals, and will troll the board here to make that point.

Well, since we've finally admitted we're just spouting opinions, I like American football a helluva lot better than soccer, too.

I just don't hate soccer, and I get that the World Cup is a big deal to one helluva lot of people. More than care about American football.

Ireland is considered to be one of the most conservative countries in western europe. they are an extremely rural country, with a longstanding history of wanting as little govt as possible. and then there is the whole catholic thing.

i grew up in a town with a large irish presence and the sterotype that the irish are usually conservative is true. I have seen it personally as most of my irish friends were republicans.

I disagree. It symbolizes the rise of liberalism in America. It's also about the kind of people this game attracts. Soccer is notorious for fan violence and death. I see nothing productive about making it popular here. I only see it as another sign of our decline.

Rome was addicted to soccer like matches right before the fall.
