Hey Cardinal fans...
What's up with pulling a scholorship offer from your first verbal?Isn't the Durham kid even from in-state? Any fears of that burning some bridges with high school coaches?

He was a 3 Star OLineman and I guess the staff did not feel he was good enough.

As far as burning bridges in state I don't think this staff or even the previous staff even cares about that since UofL mainly recruits Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Ohio and the Louisville Metro Area.

It's pretty clear that this scholarship was offered on a conditional basis.

Jackson honestly I think it sucks, but its just the ugly side of the recruiting business. If I'm not mistaken didn't Slaton have his scholly pulled from Maryland? Regardless we all know how ugly recruiting can get, but its a tough pill to swallow considering the in roads we were making in state. Like others have said, our recruiting areas have pretty much been the Louisville metro area, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. If you look at the kids on louisville's roster who are from Kentucky I would venture to say 85% are from the Louisville area. Not only that but the best players from the state come from Louisville example:Bush, Brohm, Urritia, Heyman, and others. Alot of those kids are impact players.

We will always get the top player out of Kentucky because they reside in the area. I think we did burn a few bridges and I always feel that coaches should keep there word, but I guess in recruiting anything goes. I guess I can't get to mad if the coaches feel they could have used that scholarship for a stud player they have been recruiting for a while. I know Louisville is in the mix for a couple of 5 star guys so that could be the reason why the scholly was pulled. Unfortunately college atheletics is pretty much a win at all cost type of deal. Right now we are just targeting better players. I hope the best from Brad Durham as I've heard he is a great student and a fine young man. I still have mixed emotions about this whole ordeal though. I'm sure other top programs have been throught his sort of thing before.

-- Yeah, Slaton did go through the same thing. The difference is Slaton is from PA and thus wasn't a in-state guy. One of the reasons Maryland HC Ralph Fredgion defended the call on Slaton is the kid he was taking was from Maryland and if you have two kids about the same you always take the home town guy

-- I guess what really suprised me so much is that the kid was from Kentucky. I don't know how ULs scholorship situation looks right now, but it seems it might have been best to do just to take the kid so other schools can't say "ULs football coaches don't keep their word". I know if I was a rival school and recruiting the same player as the Cardinals, that would be the first thing I would point out.

Hows this for keeping your word? Terry Shea the infamous coach that despite being a nice guy couldn't recruit NJ worth a lick and led the complete meltdown of Rutgers Football from mediocrity to complete chaos. Shea kept his offer for Nate Leonard despite his knee injury senior of high school while Penn State and Syracuse and others didn't. Nate Leonard that last name should sound familiar. But Terry Shea was a man of his word as is Rutgers in this state filled with corruption. So when Schiano recruits Nate's younger brother Brian he remembers the loyalty shown to his big brother and commits here and the rest is history as we all know Brian Leonard is the biggest reason perhaps after Schiano himself we're at where we're at. When Paul Pasqualoni was recruiting Brian, Brian walks into the room and sits down just taking in everything hes being told. Coach P asks Brian if he had any questions. Brian sits up and goes yes. He asks so why did you pull my brother's offer, where was your loyalty? And Pasqualoni knew instantly he lost Brian to Rutgers. He said no to Cuse, PSU, and ND to come here and this Thursday he gets rewarded. Expect a huge game from him Thursday, he's been waiting for this for a very long time and deserves every second of this.

Then again we don't know the whole story since the coaches can't comment on the situation. We are very "limited" in scholarships this year. We only have 15-16 to give out. We already have 8-9 guys with scholarships in hand. I know the staff has some studs lined up they are waiting on and probably a silent verbal from a guy. Like I said we don't really recruit a lot of players outside of the Louisville area in the state. Its not like UK will be beating us in the foreseable future. If they continue to lose to Louisville I don't know how much "hey there coach doesn't keep there word" talking they can do to keep recruits from looking at Louisville.

The good thing for us is we really don't have any competition in the city of Louisville where the best players are at. As long as we continue to pound UK year in and year out it doesn't really make a difference. The more I think about the situation the less concerned I really am. We will continue to recruit heavily in Ala, Fl, or GA and lately NC, SC.
