With all the circus/drama/lawsuits going on, can't say I blame them.

I'm sure it probably has a lot to do with the bowl dropping down. The Fiesta Bowl organization (which runs this bowl too) isn't going to have the money going forward that it was using in the past to try to get this bowl pushed up. It was up to the Big Ten #4/5 vs. Big 12 #4. It's not that high on the list anymore. Buffalo Wild Wings probably figured they paid for a better bowl than this is going to be going forward.

Side note: Isn't it weird to think that when the 4 years contracts for the last bowl season were signed, the Big Ten hadn't even announced they were looking at expansion, the Big 12 was firmly at 12 and looked on by most as stronger than the PAC-10?

Honestly, unless compelling matchups occur OR the Bowl at hand finds a way to make it a event schools want to go to, I bet more and more of these new bowls will be in the same boat in less than 4 years.... no sponsors because no one is actually interested.

I don't really see that as a problem now though at all. Tostitos left because the price was going up beyond their price range. BW3 is probably the opposite with the bowl being downgraded. Both will easily find new sponsors. I think only economy wide issues will effect the sponsors in the next 4 years and that the name attached to the bowls is as valuable as ever.

Bowl sponsorships are dropping like flies coast-to-coast... too many bowls, half empty stadiums, lackluster ratings, and the stench of lawsuits.

When you have Bitcoin being tapped by ESPN to sponsor a bowl... the same bitcoin that is tied to organized crime around the world - I'm going to say the amount of legitimate companies willing to spend millions for promotion is shrinking!

Agreed.

I honestly can't believe there are as many bowls as there are. Two-thirds of them are pure crapola and no one gives a sh*t.

I doubt it. Totsitos is owned by Frito Lay, a division of PepsiCo. PepsiCo had about 66 billion in revenue in 2013 and generated over 6 billion in net income. They can afford it. They just didn't think it was worth the money. Thats not the same as not being able to afford it. Frankly, I think these sponsorships make more sense for companies that are doing well but operate in relative obscurity. Everyone knows Tostitos. A company like Bitcoin probably gets a lot more out of a sponsorship at this point than Tostitos.

I would love to see a bunch of P5 bowl games fold and then a push by the P5 to raise the bowl eligibility requirement to 7-5.

Considering it was the P5 who made the push to remove the rule that all winning teams must be selected for bowls prior to selecting 6-6 teams, I'd say there's no way that happens.

Creating these new games was a good idea by the G5. They just totally muffed the execution. We didn't need 5 bottom of the barrel G5- vs G5 games. Those already existed. What we needed was 3 or 4 high quality games that would be suitable post season destinations for the G5 champions that don't make the access bowl. We needed to pool some playoff money to create bowls with ahigh enough payout to attract 2 or 3 #3/4/5/ type selections from a P5 conference. That was a HUGE mistake and will likely haunt the G5 for the next 6 years as most G5 champs will go to a bowl thats no better than the bowl a 5th place team from the same conference gets to attend. That sort of makes 4 out of 5 G5 championships irrelevant in any given year. Making your conference championship race meaningless is not the way to build an audience.
