UConn fans, muzzle your coach.
Quote:Connecticut coach Randy Edsall told the Hartford Courant that the school's academic standards put him at recruiting disadvantage with Big East schools such as Pitt, Rutgers and Syracuse. "Those schools can get some kids in that wouldn't be able to be successful academically here," he told the paper. "They have some places to hide [kids who aren't good students]. With the majors here, you can't hide." Edsall attempted to back away from his comments on a Big East coaches teleconference yesterday, saying that he simply meant that the academic standards at Connecticut are much higher now than they were when he began. Wannstedt responded, "It is real simple, look at the graduates from the University of Pittsburgh, and it speaks for itself. I wouldn't even go any further than that." ...

Edsell has had a bad year and now he is making excuses... he must be feeling some heat for his job.

Wish I could. The lack of results on the field (despite some talent and a reasonable schedule) weak recruiting, and those statements...what on earth happened to Randy?

I'll give him one more year (2007) to operate...

When we play the following....

UVA
Duke
Temple
USF at home
Pitt
Maine
Navy, who loses a TON off of this year's team
Syracuse at home

Plus, Rutgers and Cincy should be at leats winnable...but with that schedule and few graduates off of this year's team, if we can't get 6 wins there, than Edsall *should* be fired. Honestly for recruiting purposes, I'd fire our OC and add someone like USC's RB coach to get some **** players.

It's only natural for a coach to deflect criticism, but Edsall should be ashamed for cutting down CONFERENCE AFFILIATES 05-mafia

Wow, that is one pitiful OOC lineup. That's even below normal Huskie OOC slates, which are underwhelming to start with. Unless Navy can keep their 2006 form (doubtful) & UVA improves, anything below 4-1 would be bad.

I guess it could follow what some basketball leagues below the top 5 are doing now. Have your top projected teams play tough games, then tell the bottom teams to just get wins.

Not to mention being dead wrong about the ease of entry of the 4 schools mentioned. Hey Randy, give Calhoun a call, he doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

That schedule might be brutal, but it's perfect for a rebuilding project right now, as long as you do it for one year.

What a moron...

Par the course with him, he took shots at USF two years ago and probably the guy who took a jab at Jim Leavitt earlier this year inthe Sporting News.

Did he realize that the three schools he just slammed are members of the presitigous Association of American Universities?

Edsall has officially lost his freaking mind! The pressure of Connecticut struggling the last 2 years is getting to him. Excuses = one foot out the door. He better get that ship straightened FAST after comments like that!

Senator Kerry, call your office. 05-footinmouth

First of all, how hard it is to say just because US&R said so it is harder to get into other schools than UCONN. UCONN has improved its admission standards every year so who knows what is going on in the background. He just said out of all the schools he has coached at (BC, CUSE, GTECH, UCONN) that UCONN/GTECH are the hardest place for football players to get into, whatever that means.

Bottom line is he is making excuses. It is time for him to step up recruiting or learn from coaches at other schools. There is no excuse for UCONN's poor performance so far. UCONN has given Randy everything: fat salary, new stadium and one of the best facilities in the East Coast.
