Penn State - Franklin impressed me while at Vanderbilt and I think he'll have them ready!

The one which does well that I'm not expecting to do well ... because if I'm expecting it, then it isn't a surprise, is it?

I could see the turtles 3rd in the east through 7th. Michigan and Penn State aren't where they normally would/should be. I think your boy keeps his job with that kind of showing. Question for you: How have the turtles been recruiting locally? The DMV is loaded but they have to take advantage. Also how is the excitement for the season. Rutgers is visibly excited I haven't gotten the same sense from the Terps.

RE: Biggest surprise B1G team for 2014 ...
I'm nervous for this year and think we might have been overrated even with Braxton returning. I checked the Vegas odds a little while ago on national championship and Michigan State was the lead Big Ten school. Michigan and Ohio State were actually even at 50-1. That tells me a lot.

On favorite teams being unable to be shocking teams, that's one reason Ohio State coaches never get coach of the year. Tressel was truly amazing, but never won one as people always had too high of expectations for him to have room above them.

For this year, I'd put Penn State high on the list. While I can see see them collapsing bad, I can also see them competing for 1st place.

If that replacement can keep healthy this year, we may all be in for a surprise including the odds makers in Vegas.

I am strongly thinking about placing a bet on Ohio State to win the Big Ten and land in the Playoff because of the payout.

If that kid is any good, Ohio State has a chance. The rest of the team is solid isn't it?

That kid DID bypass the third year sophomore quarterback in the depth chart so he obviously isn't doing bad.

Your odds went from like 5-1 to 50-1 as soon as it was announced that Braxton was out for the year. I wouldn't look at those odds as a declaration of how good the rest of the team is.

If I was a regularly betting man, I would take those odds in a heartbeat and place a strong bet in favor of Ohio State.

I forgot to pick a surprise team. If Ohio State does well, it still is not a surprise.

If I am gonna pick a surprise team, it has to be one I Want to see surprise everyone so obviously for me that is Rutgers.

I am not saying they are going to win the division, oh no. I think they are going to be playing at a high level personally. They may still get outplayed but I think they are going to be jacked up for this season all season long. That is dangerous.

excitement is building in College Park ... always a tough road with Ravens + Washington statewide etc ... as far as recruiting MD is def picking it up esp locally ... believe they are top 30 now with a bullet ... main issue as with so many programs is depth but TERPS are getting much better here as well ...

Hope you are right. It's not just the odds being behind Michigan State and even with Michigan. Our defense was atrocious last year and while I'll grant injuries, it hasn't been our strength since Tressel left. We also lose other pieces that were good last year.

That said, don't get me wrong. I'm not predicting a bad season and can see a very good season if this young talent lives up to potential. There's a lot of question marks though and until they are answered, I think being ranked top 10 in the country is probably too high.

Different schools have different surprise thresholds. If Rutgers, Indiana or Illinois go bowling, then I would qualify as one surprised little Big Ten football fan.

As long as he starts out 0-1, I hope he goes 11-0 the rest of the way.03-lmfao

I think Rutgers will go bowling, we'll probably win 6-7 games and end up in the Pinstripe Bowl again lol
