The bad thing is momentum was finally building for UC Fball....They need to make a strong hire..If UC was going to match MSU's offer than we should be able to get some interest....I think most UC Folks who have followed the team closely want the DC Pat Narduzzi moved up. He is a great coach and has the exact opposite personality of Dantonio and could actually build some enthusiasm...The immediate concern is who will coach the bowl game since it sounds like Dantonio wants to take his entire staff. UC has a press conference at 3:00 today.

Not sure if he will do much better at MSU, but he will get a chance to recruit some players that will help build the defense he likes. I feel real bad for Cincy since he was doing so well. It sucks it is MSU, not someone like Michigan. I doubt he will do much better than current Michigan State coaches but we will see in the long run.

Cincy has to make football important. Fans have to take it seriously. I am sure it did not help for him to play in front of mostly empty crowd on national TV all the time. I really hope Cincy makes a good hire.

I give a lot of credit to the UC administration for matching the offer...if they use that money for the new coach they should be able to get a quality guy

--Maybe UC should look into getting John L Smith to take the job. That would certainly add some spice to the UC/UL game ;-)

It certainly would, but they can do much better than him.

I would think that one of the reasons that UC can't build a fan base is that they can't keep a good coach that won't look at the school as as stepping stone. Let's face it, a high powered wide open offense will sell tickets. If UC goes after another defense minded run oriented coach they are going to have the same problems unless the new coach starts to win big right away. Nancy Zimpher's first call should be to Tom Jurich to try and pick his brain for a list of up and coming offensively minded coaches. You know he knows where they are.

Maybe - if she can get a loan from Bob Huggins.

I wish Mark Dantonio the same fate as Watson Brown.

Brown left UC in the 1980s after one season for the Southwest Conference and he flopped. The best he can do now is UAB.

Well to be honest WB was never offer the type of job that Dantonio just got offered at MSU. An honest question; was there any reason to believe that Dantonio wouldn't leave UC if he was offered a higher profile job?

Yes. If you take him at his word. He said repeatedly that he was committed to staying at UC and competing for Big East chamionships. He promised his recruits that he wasn't going anywhere and that he would be around to take UC football to the next level. Reports are that UC eventually matched the salary MSU was offering. However, Dantonio chose to leave anyway. He said he looked forward to going back home. That's ironic since he is from Ohio and not Michigan.

That's funny. I thought the same thing about John L. Smith. Wouldn't it be funny if they just traded places. It sure would add some spice to the UC vs. UofL rivalry. However, UC can do much better and John L. is not what UC needs. He's a program builder, not a program sustainer. I'll give him credit for what he did at UofL, but UC is pretty good. They need someone, Steve Kragthorpe, to take them to the next level. He is Jurich's pick as the next UofL coach. UC might as well get him until we need him. ;-)

-- It seems to me their would be some logic in UC wanting John L. If UC really wants to get where the Cardinals are in football, then why not hire one of them men who helped build UL football? I have read where UC fans want a wide open offense, well John L could provide that as well

I don't want John L. Smith. Props to the UC administration for stepping up to the plate and matching the Michigan State offer though!

KNOWLEDGEABLE UC fans believe that defense wins. Only reason people are fascinated with offense is because the MAC systematically kicked the crap out of Minter's teams.

Did I think our offense stunk this season? Yes, but it was not because of the scheme. It was because it took all season for Dantonio to realize Davila was the man, not Grutza... or for Davila to step up and earn the position, whichever version you choose to believe.

We averaged 28 points and over 400 yards over our last two games vs. RU and UConn - not chopped liver by any means.

Hopefully the new coach won't be as stubborn about the QB as Dantonio was. Grutza's a fine kid, but, as the last two weeks have shown, clearly not the answer at the position.
