That's true. However, I would do things for a stadium that I will not even consider for anything else. I suspect there are many others like me.

I hope you're right.
I would be opening my wallet for other things now if there was just some public commitment to a long-range OCS plan.

I'm not a rich man, but the way this has been handled has caused me to change where my donations go.

I think some of our past administrations have been very content NOT to have alumni around the campus.

I don't know the current cast of characters.

Our alumni giving percentage has always been a significant strike against the University of Memphis as it tries to elevate itself in stature. Nothing would give the school the opportunity to raise that percentage like an on-campus football stadium.

I agree! As a university of meteoric academic reputation, our alumni don’t have deep pockets like those of Tulane’s and SMU’s.

Cut a 50 million dollar check, and I bet it gets built.

When I win powerball, Memphis gets an OCS.

I agree, make a public commitment. Get it on the master plan, give fans and supporters a way to contribute toward an OCS, make progress public (should do this with all giving campaigns) & the university would receive more donations overall. The problem, as it has been since Crump Stadium, is politics. While many think such a public commitment to an OCS would affect giving for other facilities negatively, just the opposite would happen. Just excuses & the same old politics are preventing a public OCS plan.

Agree as well. I personally am much more apt to open my wallet to a cause and well laid out plan. If that plan were to include an OCS, my wallet just may open a little wider.

#1- An OCS isn't happening now, or anytime in the foreseeable future.

#2- College teams are wasting money investing in stuff that folks don't really care about ("amenities"). TV killed the radio star, and it is well on its way to killing live athletics- especially at the college level.

#3- Schools like Memphis draw fans simply BY WINNING BALL GAMES. Wi-Fi ain't gonna get one more person to the Liberty Bowl if we are 2-7 on a cold November afternoon.

Redzone has certainly killed any want for me to go to Jags games here in town.

I'm sorry, but it's not just about "drawing fans" but also about drawing fans who are willing to pay a minimum of $20 per ticket. The school needs to make money off of football and the Liberty Bowl's capacity will always keep the university from doing so.

The days of any one other than the largest schools "making money" on ticket sales are long gone, or are leaving quickly.

1. TV Revenue
2. Corporate $$$
3. Alumni Donations
1,456. Ticket Sales

Well, our TV revenue is negligible & alumni donation % is very low. We need to be able to demand more than CBHS does for a gameday ticket, but as long as there are 30k empty seats then we are looking at never ending red ink.

Wow, you sure are a genius. Signed, Akron, FIU, UCF, North Texas...

Most, if not all of those teams went to a bowl game the season before or a couple before

Bowl Games/Beginning Of Construction
SMU
1997/1984

Akron
2008/2005 (the only bowl game in it's history) 9-15 the two years prior

FIU
2012/2011

North Texas (8-39 from 2005-2008)
2009/2004

1 out of 4 Fryboy; shockingly accurate by your bottom of the barrel standards.

SMU has billionaires as alumni, Akron and FIU have been D1 very few seasons and still played in bowl games. North Texas is interesting but Football is everything in Texas
