Bowl Ticket Costs
Oh my Gosh! I may be totally naive, but are all BCS bowl tickets at least $125. That's how much they cost on the UofL website? I was thinking about going. That thought was quickly crushed by the high cost.

That's still cheaper than just 1 NY Yankees box seat ticket to a regular season home game. (FYI...Yankees just increased their box seat tickets in the first few rows from $110 to $150 per seat per game for next year!)

$125 to see a BCS Bowl Game?

Sounds reasonable...especially when compared to watching the Yankess play the Tampa Bay Devil Rays...

KL

PS. It's also cheaper than club seats or good seats to an NHL or NBA Game. Football is actually CHEAP compared to other sports.

I don't expect the Orange Bowl will sell out--just head down and buy what you need before the game--I guarantee you'll get tix for under face.

Exactly...almost ANY Bowl Game will usually have a ton of tickets WELL below face value.

Our rule in Orlando is to NEVER pay more than $5-$10 for Citrus Bowl Tix (face value of $75 this year).

I secured club seats and VIP parking in ADVANCE to the Orang eBowl game between Nebraska/Tennessee game when Nebraska won to share the national title..for about 50% less than face.

If its YOUR team playing...many fans WANT to sit in THEIR teams sections...and realize that buying official bowl tix through their school helps their program with $$$ (because schools are responsible for unsold tix from their allotment)...but if its just a bowl game in a city where you are just visiting/living...and don't really care about either team...just wait for kickoff...almost never a problem with tix...since most bowls give/sell THOUSANDS of tix to sponsors...who always have no shows of guests/customer/clients, etc..

Exactly--I'm buying tix for $12 (Military) tomorrow for the Alamo Bowl..don't really care about the teams but for $12 it'll be fun. I have done it for several years. Sigh...maybe the Cuse will be in a bowl again.

It takes a lot of nerve to travel hundreds of miles without a sure ticket.

That doesn't sound too bad actually. I pay $64 a pop for upper level tickets at Chiefs games. And that is just regular season NFL.

Not really (for me).

I've traveled from Seattle to Miami for over 300 plus sporting events...and most trips out-of-town...we never had tix in advance.

But yes...if one has never done that before...I could see how it could be a nervous experience for one.

I concur--I've done the same thing

I went to New Orleans for the Final Four in 2003 and scored tickets within 5 minutes of getting to the team hotel. I paid $20 less than face. Bottomline: if you travel as a single or as a pair your chance of cheap tix go up. Singles; they are the chaepest tix around, usually the guy selling it just wants beer money. If you know the game will not sellout or will have a lot of no shows--you can even buy singles for a group and just meet in the endzone. Generally you get your best deals from fellow fans before the game. Another fun fact: if you can afford to miss the first few minutes of the game---tix prices plumment and you can have tix for $5-10.

Texas Bowl tickets went on sale today on the Rutgers website. They range from $40 for end zone to $80 for sideline lower level and mezzanine. Reasonable enough, I just wish we could get the game on a better TV network!

I actually traveled from Miami to Phoenix for the Penn State-Miami National championship game without tickets and not only got them but got them for free. Go by the Louisville Hotel and talk to the old alumni and they usually have extra tix or know who has some

Whether I'm a cheapscate or simply broke there's no way I can pay that much for tickets. Oh well. There's always TV. I was expecting just a little more than Liberty Bowl cost. I've gone to three of those and a Motor City Bowl.

The real cost will be getting down there Mike. Flights aren't too cheap. You can always drive, but that is a LONG drive (18 hrs roughly). If you can make it down there, tickets will not be that bad. I'm hoping I can work something out to be there.

That's a great New Orleans Final Four story...sounds like you had a blast!

Another New Orleans Final Four story....I lived in New Orleans from '91 to '96....and in the Spring of 1993...the Final Four came to the SuperDome.

I was actually feeling under the weather that day...and when I spoke to my pals back in FLA...they yelled at me "What are you doing HOME? Get your ass done there and scalp a ticket!"

Well..that got me going.

SI at the time billed it as the strongest Final Four field ever at the time...with 3 #1 seeds and a #2 seed making it to the Final Four.

Tix were scarce...very scarce and expensive....I was having zero luck...but I wasn't going to pay $300-$500 bucks at that time (heck...I wasn't going to spend $60...as I would just hit the sports bar at the Hyatt instead).

I was almost about to give up....until I walked around to the "quiet" side of the dome...and found the Kansas "Will Call" booth.

As a few folks if they had any extra tix...even told them my parents grew up in Topeka, KS (which is TRUE!)...and one person said...yeah..I think we might have an extra one.

I told him how much...he said $35....I said...great...here it is!

I was SOOO excited to get a Saturday Final Four Tix for $35....until I realized that he gave me the BOOKLET for $35...which obviously included the Saturday Final Four games...and MONDAY's NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!

Know why the kind person from Kansas told me $35....because that was the TOTAL cost of the BOOKLET!! $15 for Saturday...and $20 for Monday!!

They were the worst seats in the house (Upper level far side of the court), but on both days...I sat behind one corner section of the court...which the Dome didn't sell..because the seats at the far end of the row...where blocked by the portable stands along one sideline.

So for $35...got to see a great OT Game on Saturday between Michigan & Kentucky...and of course the exciting champ game between UNC and Michigan..which of course is forever known as Chris Webber's TIMEOUT Game! (Yes...he traveled in his backcourt too!)

As you said...single tix are the easiest tix to "scalp" in sports...never EVER buy tix from a scalper...always find a "kind" person...say from KANSAS...and if you are nice to them (and look normal), they will usually give you a deal...aka, not rip you off.

Suck it up and collect aluminum cans if you have to. This is a watershed event. You'll regret not going if you don't.
